my personal preference is to think of the site itself the like the book of your work you'd present in person -- almost nonexistent. if you're not trying to show of every html/flash skill you have, then simply show pictures of your work in an organized way.
some website folios are the digital equivalent of making a portfolio book out of neon signs, velcro and christmas lights... don't do that.
