Well with an attitude like that K77 your going to have a rather dirty chipcast aren't you. But thankfully it will help me to avoid your company.

Fine, roll into McDonalds or BK then.

(May 11 05, 10:04)I think you missed my point.

Start to think of the positive possibilites that these new forms of ID and personal data carriers will present.

randoman Nekron thinks your CRAZY!

Fine, roll into McDonalds or BK then. You can have a pound of bacon or an ounce of ham it doesnt matter. The point is material and social automation and it = less hastle.
Not having to pay for checking at the bank is one step on the convience ladder that spans well into the heavens my friend.

Wake up, roll into Starbucks...
randoman
(May 11 05, 09:57)Sums it up for me.

Think of how much easier cookies make surfing and buying online.
Can you imagine being able to program your prefrences to an embedded chip inside you?
Wake up, roll into Starbucks and simply sit down in a seat and read the paper, your chip transmits that you want a Cafe Mocha Loco Grande and a Hempsire biscut.. without having to mumur a word, the woman brings it to you with a wide, bright eyed smile. the payment is auto deducted from your Public Spending Account which is also recorded on the chip (no need to carry money around, or touch the filthy rags of paper). You finish your nice breakfast and head off to the subway for work... wait? theres no rush hour line here? what gives? Oh yeah, you simply pass thru the turnstyle, the public transportation detects your monthly subscription on your chip and you breeze right through and off to your destination. Everyone on the train is smiling at you and at each other with glassy, bright eyes... all of these day to day hastles eliminated. The woman next to you isn't clutching on to her pocketbook and why would she? Theres no money in there, and your chip is broadcasting a clean record (no prison record, f*ck not even a driving ticket). Whats this? She like's the same band as you? your chip broadcasts in it's sweet sublime way... Thats great.. I've got two ticket credits on my chip to go see The Killers tonight. i strike up a casual conversation about PopRock and 10 minutes later she agrees to go to the show with me tonight! Score!
Arriving at work, my day goes perfect. everybody is f*cking smiling.. on Cloud 9.. and why shouldent they be? All of our tasks are organized and delegated in realtime throug out our chip network. No one has to take tasks delegated by a soul-less boss.. no-way. Office tasks are broatcast through the chips sublime engine, in your own voice! Thats right, your the boss telling you what to do! All inside your little meaty noggin' by the same sweet little voice that helps you decide what to buy Mom for Mommers day! 5:00PM hits and it's time to go home. Work has been a blast but lest I forget... at 7:00 I've got a date with the girl from the train.. I check my chip and the flight is still on time she's scheduled for 7 on the dot. I've got a few more tasks to take care of here but have a few time block credits from helping a friend out in the cubical next to me. His chip is showing an opening tonight so I simply deligate the work to him... bang it cleared. I'm out! i'll let you know how my night was but I can gaurentee it will be great. It always is. I've got a f*cking smile from cheek to cheek, my chip tells me she's STD free, has her shots, and she's not afraid to kiss on the first date.
See??!! I'm tired of all these doomsday sceneios being presented by everyone... Start to think of the positive possibilites that these new forms of ID and personal data carriers will present.

Let's chip the government first. See how it goes.
- todelete__20
how they passed it is what chaps my ass.
they tucked it away deep inside a military spending bill.
that's damn low. and it's to be mandated by the government but funded by the state, forcing them to drop the millions if not billions to make the switch. nice. real nice.
- JAO0
Dude, randoman's an agent!

I don't even see why they can't just skip the ID cards and start with the chipping. Then no one can steal your ID, you cant lose it, don't have to worry about leaving home without it, etc.
Just put all that data in a little grain of sand and popit under the skin = less hastle.
- Mimio0
No, but Nascar will know how many times a month you take a leak in a public bathroom so they can further tailor their marketing.
- BonSeff0
will these cards come in the color of my favorite nascar?

I know about RFID, I had the same concerns but somene else shed some light on the situation.
First, the document transmitts at such a short range that it must be within a very close proximity to a scanner (ie. magnetic swipe). In addition, the encryption handshake methods that it uses are built like a tank. Add in biometric auth and it's even more difficult for someone to jack your information and use it for marketing your spending habits, monitoring your movements inside and outside of the country, tracking your bank account situation, your medical history, etc. etc.
people are simply paranoid with a capitol P.
If your really concerned with things like this in the first place aren't you afraid to be online? Based on your google searches alone one could try to paint a picture of you. A 10 year old could probably extract this info from you during the period of a snow day at home.
- Mimio0
But the act they just passed allows the DHS to determine what type of card to use. One with biometric data on it, RFID, whatever...

those guys are really dragging their feet. jazx would have broke 50 thousand by now.
- todelete__20
jesus randoman. i'm almost disgusted that i have to say this to you.
when i said 'love it or leave it' did you read mrdob's post that i PASTED above mine where he said something like 'watch out guys, kona is going to come on here and tell you all to love it or leave it' so when i SAID THAT i was only jokingly responding to mrdobs.
jesus.
also, if you really don't see what the deal is with these cards stop illuding to sarcasm in your posts for fucks sake. this is a text based blog we can't see the sarcasm or lack thereof on your face or hear it in your voice.
man. i feel like i'm typing to a 5 year old.
- mrdobolina0
it wouldnt be that big of a deal if the cards weren't RFID.
If you dont know the capabilities of RFID, go read about it.
- Mimio0
That's just the thing it's a non-descript open door for abuse.
