I know about RFID, I had the same concerns but somene else shed some light on the situation.

First, the document transmitts at such a short range that it must be within a very close proximity to a scanner (ie. magnetic swipe). In addition, the encryption handshake methods that it uses are built like a tank. Add in biometric auth and it's even more difficult for someone to jack your information and use it for marketing your spending habits, monitoring your movements inside and outside of the country, tracking your bank account situation, your medical history, etc. etc.

people are simply paranoid with a capitol P.

If your really concerned with things like this in the first place aren't you afraid to be online? Based on your google searches alone one could try to paint a picture of you. A 10 year old could probably extract this info from you during the period of a snow day at home.
