i hear what you are saying, but would you rather the concept be shy and understated? you dislike it but it got your attention didnt it? the mouse didnt click itself to get to that site....

RockCollection, I respect where you're coming from, I just beg to differ. The marketing did get my attention, sure, but so do neon signs that say LIVE NUDE GIRLS. We're easily conditioned by this kind of stimulus, that doesn't mean we're still not desperate for enlightenment. And once you've set the stage, once you've teased me, if it doesn't deliver s promised, it's hard not to feel a tad apathetic--which sometimes translates on the surface to frustration and spite. Interesting to think about nonetheless.

I'm with Julien. I think these young designers need to stop thinking that they are rock stars, stop putting GREAT and GODLIKE on everything...I mean for fucks sake we're graphic designers.

you know king julien, i think i wanted to argue for the sake of a little banter, but i totally hear where you are coming from. Come shit or shine if you dont like it you dont like it, everyones got an opinion and i respect that.

There's this bluejay that hangs out in the tree next to my window. Every morning when I open the curtains, he tries to maddog me-just staring--and then, he kamikazes right into the glass. He'll smack his face, retreat 2 feet, look at me, then try again. He must smack himself like 20 times a day, but he never learns that's he not getting in. At this point I think he must get some kind of narcotic rush from the blow, because why else would you continue to elicit that kind of pain? That's how I am in strip clubs. I actually go thinking I might get laid, and without fail (okay, well, there were a few lucky experiences but that's another story) I come out broke and alone.
But then again, at least i have some good images and scents in my head for later, when the room is dark and the evenings long, when Cameo's Word Up and Candy are on continual loop, and I'm the brilliant one.

well, i'll agree to disagree, i see what they're doing as cool, i dunno if it's excellent art but it's cool. the hype thing for me, is that they're taking their thing and blurring boundaries. they're young and ambitious and that the old dudes come down on them like some no good youts. they must be doing something right if they're pissing ppl off.

how are the kids 'winning'? I didn't know that art and design were win/lose sports.
Also I just don't get how some of you designers think that marketing is marketing and if they make money then they must be doing it right. When did pissing people off mean you were being innovative? And on that note when the fuck did doing the same trick over and over make you 'good'? I guess we will see what happens in the next five years to this industry as well as some of the people in it.
