*sigh
I'm a little distressed right now and I need to enter the English program if I can't get into second year of Mass Communication. So...please tell me some other other jobs I could possibly have:
journalist, librarian, lawyer, social worker, clergy, correctional services officer, publisher's representative, public relations officer, professional writer, teacher, corporation representative

Jaline,
There's always a position available for you with at DTNS.

Especially with the new hiring practices.
Now I'll think of an honest response.

surprisingly 5 (our of 20) programmers at my company were literature or english major.
you never know what you'll end up with.
cheer up!

pick a few out of that list and do some research to see how big the spectrum is. librarians are pretty diversified/specialized.

What? is this some sort of a false dilemma? You're not able to take the courses/program you want?

in the big picture, Jaline, this doesn't matter at all. just get your BS BS and go out and find a jobbie job you enjoy

any interest in copywriting? what did you want to do after studying comm? is that off-limits?
i studied english & did copy. it's still conceptual. and nothing says you can't do design too (or whatever, for that matter).

I hear there is a lot of people at McD's with English degrees.

sometimes there is a lot of demand for a particular dept ... it varies semester to semester
perhaps it is really high now and you can switch into mass comm another semester
soooo .... just take the summer off ... hijack your parents car and explore canada and the us
- Jaline0
been there, done that, canuck :P
I'm not really talking in terms of design because I'm probably not going to be designing as a job. Just a hobby. So I'm wondering about all jobs you can get with an English degree. What I did this first year was Mass Comm., which is almost the same as journalism (more concentrated than English).

I have a great mark in Mass Comm. itself, but the average is what I'm having trouble with. My other class marks suck.
- _salisae_0
if they don't let you in .... petition
and build a strong case for yourself
- Jaline0
yes, that's an option. although i suck at doing that too.

from experience, then: i recommend taking business classes and interning in fields of interest. use english as a foundation for analysis and communication in the workforce. on the positive side, english can serve as a great background for any profession. but on the other hand, you need to really direct it in order to make it earn $$ for you.
my financial analyst friend often comments that she's the only english major she knows who's got a real 9-to-5er. so you're doing the right thing by thinking about it now.

if reese witherspoon could get into harvard law then you can certainly get your butt into the mass comm dept
- lifeinbinary0
salisae is right. send them a video of yourself scantily clad. it worked for reese.
- Jaline0
ha. i have a plan. Mass Comm. students have the option of switching out of their major right away. So I could go into English, get great marks, then switch back in Mass Comm.
- _salisae_0
good thinking. and meanwhile, during the semester, you should drop by the mass dept and discuss your plans with the teachers and dept. heads
so they know you're serious and can warm up to the idea
