get an fm transmitter extension for yr ipod and then tune yr car stereo into the frequency

One of my workmates has this geekster gadget - it's a little fm transmitter (think it's called an itrip?).
You pop it on top of your ipod, tune your radio into the signal - at home , in car etc. It transmits upto about 50-100 yards. Cool for barbecues and stuff.
(In the UK, I think it's illegal to transmitt a fm signal without a licence)

stewart, how many people do you know who still has a tape deck in their car?

Or, just put your headphones in and drive!

i have one

btw some car audio units have a minijack input on the back, check your manual or online. wouldn't surprise me if newer car audio will have this on the front by default in the future for things such as mp3 players. forgot the brand but there's this new car which has that and they partially use it as a selling proposition.

yeah but you is oldskool stew! :)

My stereo still has a tape deck. :(
I think this could turn into a mission.

I just recieved my package yesterday in the mail, have heard great things.
Allows you to control the ipod with your car stereo/steering wheel controls - and if your stereo supprts text it will display track names etc

I have also used the itrip - convenient, but the sound quality is generally crap.

Get a minijack input, the FM transmittter thing is total shit. Or wire into the head unit auxillary inputs. It'll take you an hour and a half and you'll have thebest sound quality.

if you have a tape deck you're in business. just get one of those tape converters. they sound way better than the FM transmitter.
Or get a new alpine deck. (they come ipod ready, and if they dont you can get a converter for $100)
Or just check to see if you have and AUX jack on the back of your deck for CD changers, etc.

a car is made to drive to a destination. its not a funking living room!

What mogwai said.
If you want to get fancy you can have the stereo shop guys do it for you, and they can put the input in a more convenient place, like the glove compartment or armrest.

go to crutchfield.com they have all kinds of headphone to aux converters.
