Thanks scarabin for posting the album. I sure appreciate it....

no problem

the reason there are so many posts about it randoman, is that any release by trent reznor is an event album, like every time a star wars movie is released it's an event movie you have to go see (whether you like the series or not).
trent reznor spearheaded a genre, taking "dark" away from clipart skulls and bikers and taking it to an intellectual, emotional level; helped pioneer a whole sound no one else was making.
trent reznor IS industrial rock.

The album is good but I was not blown away or excited after hearing it all. It seemed all very simple and uneventful. Yet satisfying. But I was very moved by Right Where it Belongs. It's so lonely and the tone of the song hits a fragile cord in the heart that could bring you to tear a lonely tear. 8 out of 10.

scarabin, c'mon... ur basically talking about goth, darkwave, EBM, industrial... NIN was a pioneer but didnt do it alone.
Maybe on a level of ballad type music, or mood albums or whatever, but the whole intellectual goth thing was going pretty strong before Trent got in.
Maybe Edgar Allan Poe would have been fronting a similar band if he were still alive?

Okay Pretty Hate Machine helped change music history. The influence for that album came from a variety of sources. You can here it throughout the album. But Trent made something so unique the masses were impressed. Ministry and Skinny Puppy were amazing bands, but they did not have the depth that NIN put into their albums. Downward Spiral was probably one of the best Produced albums of the 90's. NIN has also created some of the most compelling artists of this century.

-even Jeordie WhiteSo when NIN releases an album it becomes a big event.
Honestly I was not sure about the album. But now after two weeks this stupid album will not leave my CD player.
Plus Trent is one of the best Lyrisists of our time.
Plus you have to admit his eye for design is impressive.
The guy is a true artist.

If you are forced to eat bugs for a month, you will eventually learn to cope with the taste and eventually develop a liking for them.
Same thing with this album. It sounds like he phoned it in or os trying to fit in. The imagination is lost. If I want to hear straight forward rocking stufff, there are plenty of other bands I will put first.
And I am A HUGE, HUGE NIN fan. Just really disapointed in what he put out this time.
Ohhh well, theres always the new TOOL album to look forward to. I heard a track the other day and watch out folks!

Opiate
Very true! This is not the best NIN album. But you cannot expect the guy to put out an amazing album everytime. However it is still a well done album.
You cannot compare Tool to NIN. TOOL is going to release the album of the year man!!
- lifeinbinary0
opiate, how/where did you hear the new track? did i mention you are my best friend?
- opiate0
I have some friends in the music biz that I collaborate with that got a hold of one of the tracks. Its about 17 minutes long and its mindblowing.
LifeinBinary, u in Pheonix? I grew up there.

I talked alot of shit about this album at first ... but damn, I like it now. Best thing since Downward Spiral.
- lifeinbinary0
yes, been in phoenix for the past few years. love the mountains.
the 17 minute track sounds great. any word on when they plan to release?
- czsevenone0
OK my 2 cents.
With Teeth is slowly growing on me but....
...iit was only after listening to 'The Fragile' just now that I was inclined to respond to this thread.
I think the commercial failure of The Fragile has scared Trent.
With Teeth doesn't have the sense of pioneering spirit, agression and sheer genius the previous releases did.
Strike one Trent.

opiate, don't tease me like that about TOOL. I WANT!
And you point was right on.

has anybody got a hold of the NIN Still CD? I was wondering if the songs on it were new versions or if it was just a compilation from different albums of the original tracks. The Becoming is on it, would love to hear a third version.

what all this "growin on me" talk about?
i still find the album boring.
