Didn't quite work. Coulda been better. Wasn't as philosophical as the book, and therefore not as funny. Too much emphasis on action. But i guess it was enjoyable.
Too many hollywood sci-fi epic norms being adhered too IMO

Bugger.
Ah well, always skeptical about it anyway...
Still going to see it soon tho, sort of compulsory :)

I'm sure you'll enjoy it _smk. I had a problem with the editing style. Too fast paced. Didn't give time to allow the characters to develop fully (especially Marvin the manic depressive robot). Felt like they tried to cram everything into 90mins of pop-corn entertainment, at the cost of the more cerebral aspect of the story.

ergo it doesn't really work :)
Is the guide cool? Shynola innit?

i found the book in my closet. i'm nearly done reading it again. i'll avoid seeing it this weekend so i can finish up the book.
i've heard it has 'hollywood poetic license' written all over it.

Adams was pretty involved with all the tweaks to make it work as a film right up to his death though.

Wofly - the script is there, and it's fine. It's direction and editing i had a problem with.
Too much camera lingering on another "cool" visual effect. And cutting too soon when a humourous philosphical point is made. Kinda loses it's essence. The whole thing had a feel of Star Wars circa 197?. Especially with the John Williams inspired sound track.
I like the BBC version of it. I like how it was stark, and space seemed a cold lonely place. And the comedy was as black as moth's heart.

the old movie was good. i enjoyed it.
i have to admit, though, in the previews for the new one...that rainbow interface guide is slick.

lol. yea. i had that idea, jazx. i was thinking it would be cool as a windowmanager for linux.
probably wouldn't be too difficult, really. just modify blackbox or fluxbox code...
hmmm.

(Apr 29 05, 06:39)yes, the Sparker Temple will be made of rock, but will also consist of a fast breeder reactor. We can build bombs dude and destroy any NT'er in our way to Steve Jobs!
