Thinking about selling my trusty Trek VRX in favour of a new steed. Was considering the Orange Five Deore Disc - 04 or 05 model.
http://www.orangebikes.co.uk/200…There are some good deals on 03/04 model Marins just now too (Rift Zone/East Peak/Rock Springs).
Any other suggestions?

Something like that ;)
Nah, we have mountains! And good ones! A little bitty smaller than the ones across the pond but still good!

I like that Orange Five though... mmmmmmmmmmmm!

Or should I buy Canadian?!

Hey Stimuli. What kind of riding do you intend to do? X-country, freeride, downhill? I can help you with some bike options, worked at a shop for a long time. Let me know...
I'm riding a Santa Cruz Bullit and it's the best bike I've ever owned.

Cheers Davey. It'll be mostly XC riding but I'd like something that can handle some of the bigger stuff if I felt the urge. Needs to be good on road too though - it'll be my preferred method of transport for work.
My Trek has some serious pedal bob issues and the forks aren't set up right for me - fat bastard alert! Need to get in training for this:

I'd recommend, these setups, but not sure if it's the most economical for Scotland? These are light freeride, pedal friendly.
Kona Coiler (burly bike and great price too): http://www.konaworld.com/shoppin…
SC Heckler: http://www.santacruzbikes.com/bi…
FSRXC: http://www.specialized.com/bc/SB…
This place has sick deals on used rigs, global shipping: http://classifieds.mtbr.com/cgi-…
The Orange 5 is nice too, it's a little heavy though...
Cheers!

Thanks. I think the Heckler's out of my price range (soooo expensive in the UK, talking £2k+ for decent spec). I think a custom build is out of the question as I just don't have the cash :(
Saw a good deal on a Trek Liquid 30 (from £2.2k to £1.3k) - not the lightest of bikes but had some decent reviews.
I'm stuck now! Think I need to do some test rides.

Go for a Kona...great price point and a really well built rig.I owned a Stinky for 2 years. Similar to the Orange, but a better pedaling platform because of the 4-bar linkage.
YEah, the Santa Cruz' are spendy...I got my Bullit barely used on mtbr.com at 1/2 retail.
Cheers! Happy riding.
Hey, I have some cool riding shots, so you can see our stomping grounds: http://www.listendesign.com/page…

Damn! Sweet shots Davey! I gotta get back on the bike...and lose 40 pounds.

Oh oh... sorry, found a few newies for the mix... Rocky Mountain Slayer 50/ETSX 30, Whyte PRST-4, oh man this is a head fuck! I shouldn't be buying at all but...
- 5timuli0
And they're some fine photos too :)
Guys like the one in the third Action Sports photo scare the shit out of me - balls of steel.
- davey_g0
Yeah, the Slayer is a sick rig too. They are spendy as well, unless you are getting a good deal on one from Canada...you should try that. I ordered my Kona from Canada and saved 25%...

I ordered my Kona from Canada and saved 25%...
hehe,i know its a brand but still sounds funny.hey Kona!were are.biketalk!

I'd get the Rocky Mountain for £1500 (25% off). Steep prices here in the UK. Only a 19" though but my old Marin Eldridge was a 19" and was perfect for me.
