Dell's have the best deals, and I think they look ok compared to the other ugly pc's out there.
I owned a pc for over 5 years, and recently got a mac but been using it for years at work.
PC's definetly work better, but macs look better.
If you're on a college budget, check out craigslist.com They have great deals there.

I've been building my PC's since always, I felt like Anakin making C3P0. Recently I bought a used Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop and I don't really see the difference in performance between it and my PC.
Not many ppl know that what slows down your machine is often the hard drive. I solved this issue with the fastest laptop drive on the market: 7200RPM/60GB Hitachi. I replaced my laptop drive with it and it runs about as fast as my main machine now. The laptop was meant as a desktop replacement because I'd be moving soon, but now I don't think I will need a desktop PC before Longhorn and I'm not sure this one isn't good enough for LH. I'll just need a decent keyboard, a mouse and a monitor when I arrive to my new home. The processor, memory and video card are upgradeable, so I think I will stay with this lappie for some time.
