Looking into getting a new computer soon. Will be a design workstation. Nothing crazy, but I like being able to run 2 or 3 programs at once.
I'm a PC guy, and when I last bought a computer, Dell was the best choice. Would you say this remains true?

just wait for a dell deal, they come out and expire on wednesdays usually
check

what are you talking about "you'd like it to be able to run 2 or 3 programs at once"? you must have been using some shitty computers before. i always have photoshop, illustrator, dreamweaver, internet explorer, firefox, and other programs open.

Go to the local computuer shop and have them build you one.

ditto. After building my own I have never gone back. My 3 year old pc runs great still and thats what I use as my main pc. Comforting when you know you have complete selection of the make and model of each component.

How about a small form factor like the ones from Shuffle?
http://global.shuttle.com/Produc…Since you mentioned Dell I take it that you're not into building your own. Apologies if I'm wrong there.
But building one of these is really simple. The shuffle ones comes with a step-by-step guide for the procedures.

*waits for mac users to chime in that the mac mini is smaller* :S
- Peter0
when building it yourself you can likely afford both.

buy a mac mini and shave a pc inside it ;)

Ummm... I guess I should have mentioned that my computer now is pretty old. Can't afford much in college. Thanks for the info though...

I have thought about building one. I guess I have always been intimidated because I don't know all that much about the hardware side. I'll look more into it.
Thanks.

we have Dell's at work... i thought i'd hate going back to PC... but they're way fucking faster than my powerbook, and just as fast as the G5s at my old gig.
i don't really know much about PCs so i can't recommend anything... but i thought i'd share anyways
cheers

Unless your a geek at heart, and you believe you'd enjoy building your own system, including the learning curve, I'd say just go with a tier-1 OEM (Dell, HP, IBM).
I AM a geek at heart, and I DID enjoy building my own systems. But at some point it just became a pain in the ass, and I stopped seeing any point to doing it myself.
