Postscript printers are pricey as well aren't they?

(Apr 22 05, 06:12)Adobe Acrobat is a lot cheaper.
Print to Distiller and then print the PDF on yer non PS printer for better results.

If you want help on something - always state your problem and what software/hardware is involved.
I found the other day that when I printed something in indesign through my hp930c (crap btw) in normal mode, all the text was pooey and yuck. It reverted to 300 dpi - which for some reason still looked terrible.
Sticking printer settings to Best gave me 600dpi and it looked like sex!And things ALWAYS look different on screen than from print, part of being a designer is knowing how it will come out.
What software are you using?

one of the problems, i find, is the fact that usually on the screen, your artwork is surrounded by a white background when working in illy or freehand. that results in your composition looking different than when you print it (layout, not folor).
try surrounding your artwork with neutral color like dark grey, then you'll get a better idea what it looks like after it's printed and cropped. still, there's no alternative to printing it, although with time, you will probably gain experience and be able to give better predictions.

maybe that's because you're designing on screen with yer old comfy menus and the interface interacts with your piece. that doesn't happen on paper. this sounds stupid but i find it to be true when i think of it. spatial notion vary a lot.
