Personal experience from MU:
For my 21st I got hold of a big bag of weed, went to the astoria in london with a mate, and saw system of a down, sepultura and slayer play some quintessesntial dancing music, got fucked up, and had a damn good time. Being the selfish twat I am, i suggest you ignor what everyone else says and go and do whatever makes you happiest.
But this is just MU talking, i have hairs on my keyboard so don't listen to me ;)

I avoided doing anything big for mine. I guess by 21, i didn't really care that much about the whole deal - plus i had big do's for my 18th and 19th.
I ended up just booking a private room at a fancy japanese restaurant overlooking a marina, had close family, and 3 of my best mates, and feasted and downed much sake. then just went out into town the next night. Oh, and I put a ban on big speeches, or baby photos, and all that usual 21st crap. That made me much happy.

i rented a 2 story suite at Residence Inn, bought $100 bucks of booze and had strippers. Ah good times. Just make sure your buddies watch you so you wont wake up next to something horrible looking.
