Ive decided that its time i put up some sort of personal portfolio seeing as my parents have been on my ass about finding an internship... let me know what you think of this layout:

Have you considered removing the telephone and email info (place them in a 'Contact' link in the main menu)?
Then you can move the menu up - I'd say move it up so that 'Meet Theodore' starts where 'Electronic Mail' is now ... maybe bump up the font size of the menu by 1 or 2 pixels (say, 14pixels) ...
Might 'open' it up a bit, because the lower text-occupied area feels a little cramped in relation to the block above.
Also, try using a softer color for the copy ("Theodore is the portfolio of ..." etc) instead of black - maybe a lighter/darker shade of blue that will complement the blue block above?

the blue rectangle makes me feel depressed. are you going to load images into that rectangle? is theodore going to stay there on all the images?
get rid of the telephone and email right there on the main, stick in a seperate page.
then move your navigation up close to the rectangle.
maybe it's the color youre using that is depressing.
