not sure if it's the same as w2k but I just noticed today that it shows you the last login time when you do ctrl-alt-delete and get the windows security dialog box.
not sure if it stayed with xp tho.

This probably isn't exactly what you want, but if you go to the control panel, click on Performance and Maintenance. Next click on Administrative Tools followed by Event Viewer. In the Event Viewer click on System in the left pane. On the right look under the source heading for "eventlog". You should have a couple in a row. If you right click, one will say something about the service being stopped, and the other will say the service started.
I don't know how exact you want the time, but that should give you a reasonable estimate about when your computer was turned off and on.

does XP not have something like the 'uptime' command in Unix/OSX?! seems so simple...

My computer is acting slow. I dont remember when it is the last time I restarted it and I wanted to find out if it is because I havent done a reboot in a while or if it is something messed up with it.
I will go ahead and try all of your suggestions.
Thanks!
