What do you do when a client is dragging their feet before the project even begins?
I was awarded a contract and have recieved verbal approval...BUT its been 3 weeks and they stilll havent signed the contract. They agreed to pay 50% up front, too, but they have yet to get that out either.
Obviuosly I havent started work on it yet. The contract clearly states that I need their cooperation in a timely manner...but this sends red flags up from the very beginning.
I am 95% sure the rep I am working with is a slacker and she is the root of the problem.
What should I do? I've emailed her and she keeps telling me she will sign the contract and accounting will get a check out...but its been 3 weeks.
Should I back out now? Not a very lucrative contract...but $$ none-the-less.

i see two options...
one, see if you can talk to someone else in the company.
two, threaten to back out if they don't get that stuff to you in a week or so. then follow thourgh if they don't.

I'd advise telling them to lift their feet up or it could cause some serious health hazards

email them this evening stating the needs of your development in a very general manner
follow up with a call tomorrow morning discussing details and tell not ask them that you will be in friday morning to have the contract signed
be prepared and be aggressive
noone pays a pansy

Dude, make you concerns very clear, and if things still give you the heebeejeebees get out while you can.

imagine if that is at the begining, how it will be during the project process?
fire in the hawl!

tell them that their delay on this project will cause time conflicts with other on going projects etc...
if they don't do anything, just dump them and look for other projects.

I've been waiting for three months for these three project to get under way. I'm Leaving for vacation in two weeks. I expect all three to start sending stuff next week.

well, I guess my email this morning was harsh enough. the signed contract is coming through the fax machine as I type...
AND the roll out date has been extended.
I like that..."nobody pays a pushover..."
alright...now I have to wait for the check...

yeah, that's good.
don't be pushed around by your clients. i think it's best to set that attitude first.

1. find someone else you could speak to in the company.
2. email to her asking about the status. CC this other person on email.
3. if the status does not get back to you or if status is not at somewhere you want it to be, note again that their help would be greatly appreciated for the project to move forward and to be executed smoothly.
4. HAVE THEM SIGN THE CONTRACT. GET MONEY or tell them you ain't doing shit.

be patient, if they dont follow through in a couple of weeks, i think its ground for suplexing them down like 6 flights of stairs

----------------He already waited 4 weeks, plus 2 weeks that you recomend...
that is 6 weeks of waiting! I dont think people should be waiting 6 weeks for a contract or feedback

ok ok, immediately put them in a figure four leg lock, or else use their own chair to beat them with
