Moiz, the 2 guys who founded flash presented at the conference, Casey Reas and Ben Fry, and they describe it as a digital sketchbook, allowing you to get ideas quickly working. They developed it to help solve problems they faced and built it up from there. I imagine they have no intention of marketing to replace flash, like NSpace says (jea jea) nothing will probobly replace flash (anyone remember SVG?).
The 2 most influencial presentations for me were
Computational Information Design
and Flattening (I'm not just saying this because Dean is here I told him this in person after).
Evan Roth, Robert Hodgin, Jeremy Thorp are 3 guys i learned of at the fest. and really hope they have them back next year !

haha
fry and reas made PROCESSING not Flash..and everything starts from a lower level to get to go up... im not saying Processing will take over flash, but something like it if Macromedia doesnt bring something real good to the table..

anyone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong, but processing is just an sdk developed in java. basically, you take a complex function that contains the algorithm to say, draw a line, package it up in a line function line(x,y,x2,y2), for example and then put it in a library. in other words, they've done most of the hard work for you and you just take these complex objects provided to you in a simple wrapper and implement them as stated in the api. all that to say, i seriously doubt you will ever see macromedia merging with java technology in this way.
macromedia needs to push the envelope on flash instead of the small improvements here and there. better font support, bitmap blitting support, etc. and their ide could use a major overhaul as well. but, this is just one persons opinion.

ur rite Steve... but flash's speed rite now just SUX... and java is faster when it comes to movements and complex computations.. and if they find a way to make something like this in flash.. it'll make it a helluva product...

"and if they find a way to make something like this in flash.. it'll make it a helluva product..."
actually, they already have it. it's called shockwave.
- derek20050

shockwave did have wayyy sicker rendering...
8ball is bringing it back

flash is not rapidly growing like it was a few versions back

(Apr 13 05, 22:14)That's what happens when the market becomes saturated.
The rate at which a sponge, or a child for that matter, soaks in liquid or information is much faster when the sponge is dry/empty.
Did't you get a chance to see the Macromedia presentation that started off the festival?
- jeedoubleu0
And yes, flash does processing suck, but I'm sure that the boys at Macromedia are aware of it and have already fixed the problem.
- derek20050
all im saying is
go play pool. what do you see..
