But if I did see some cunt riding it around it would be a flying kick to the face before any questions were asked.

kbags is actually on to something there. Although it's obviously ilegal, someone at the local might be inclined to write you an estimate for your stolen bike that would be appropriately inflated to cover your deductable etc.

to be honest i'd kick a 9 year old if provoked.
- Mimio0
*meant to type "local bikeshop" up there.

I'd set up a trap.
Leave the garage door open again with something of value in sight, then when the little bastard shows up again. Kick the shit out of him.

hope the prick gets hit by a fucking bus driving it..

jevad,
put a note in to the JeffCo county sheriff's office. i got one of my DH bikes stolen out of my own garage several years ago and about 13 months later i got a call from a woman in that dept. saying she was pretty sure she had my bike. i was shocked.
turns out she did and i learned that they have a really h-core bike theft sting operation going on all the time looking for bikes that are stolen as there are so many on the front range. i don't think i have her contact info anymore, but i will look.
sucks about the bike. i HATE thieves....

Yah a good trap, super sharp nails through a board on the ground or a giant mousetrap. You might need some help pulling back the thing though.
Do they sell 15 pounds blocks of cheddar?

jevad very sorry to hear! :(
Do you live in a subdivision, condo, etc? My guess is there may possibly be rules as to the responsibility of tenants for common areas of property people share.
After your "investigation" you are highly sure it is this person who left the door open.True, you could have locked your bike up and not left it out...
But you should have a reasonable expectation for property in a garage to be safe provided the neccesary protection is taken - aka proper working door locks, dedication to locking doors all the time by people who use the garage.Although someone could have "broken into" the garage, if you feel certain it wasn't locked, or was left open, and you know who is responsible, I see no problem in confronting them in a polite manner and mention what happened.
"Hey there, just wanted to let you know that my bike was stolen, and I feel it happened because there was easy access to the garage. I've talked to (the other neighbor) and he assured me he didn't leave it open."
However, the person you feel did it could just as easily say the other guy is lying...
Ugggghhhh, bad situation, not great to cause problems with neighbors.
- madirish0
no problem. i'd rather burn $490 then have some fucking thief take it.
- e-pill0
maybe a nt'er took it.
there can be a conspiricy here.

- brandelec0
if your neighbour denies it, sit outside where your neighbour can see with the saddest puppy face, slouched shoulders, with your helmet on your head... i mean a really sad ass site, may be even keep one of your shoelaces untied
if he doesn't come clean, he;s a cold bastard
