I showed the design to my teacher today and got some feedback. I can't be arsed explaining a few elements that are there for the purpose of gaining marks but as far as the assignment goes, the image is looking about as good as it can to meet all of the marking criteria though it's far from a masterpiece. Still, I'm happy to get the marks and leave it pretty much as is for the assignment. This is where it's at (be aware that going from .AI to .PNG8 has killed a little contrast and also made the transparencies a lot less subtler (especially along the bottom) but you'll get the idea:
Thoughts, comments and suggestions (to pursue with the image after it has been handed in and marked) welcome.

What might be intresting is to trace the root of the fad.
For instance, the circle with drips coming down that you mention is most obvious linked to spray=paint stencil art which is big now... it was an element that allowed digital or print work to take on a rough/gritty urban street style.
Less know are the roots of leaving vowels out of words like ths crc vr2l. This was actually adopted from early programming code where the limits of memory caused programmers to be cheap with using characters. The original term for this was Hungrian programming, because the dude that started it was Hungarian (and worked for Apple Computer). Why was that a fad? Well it looked cool, and at the time everyone was very hung up on the "Virtual, Cyber, Code" astetitc so it fit well.
See if you can trace the reason behind fads such as the 45 degree angle, Royal Iconography (the lions, crown, etc.).
It's all to easy to exploit them, but very few dive into the root cause. Find out about the times they appear and how the trends reflect the current situtaion or climate in out world.
At least you stand to gain something useful out of your project... and who knows, maybe you'll be armed with the know-how to start the next one.

Unevenly cut pizza is begining to become a trend...
All the hottest parlors are cuttin their slices with square tops (almost rectangle shaped slices).
I think the trend started when citizens couldent make up their mind between getting sicilian and regular slices... so it's the best of both worlds.

bk_shankz ,
It's no secret that the mere use of the word pizza will make someones mouth water and tounge twitch.
Pizza is one of those rare foods who's name alone will stir the appitite.
Pi - To pique the curosity... the alluring aroma of a fresh pie making its way though your nasal cavity and into you glands.
izz - sounds like "eats" and that exactly what you do once the tempting smell has overcome your senses...
za! - you excalim after you finish a few slices, still savoiring the flavor of fresh tomatoes and warm, tangy cheese.
Pizza!

(Apr 11 05, 01:20)everyone just ripped this from 123klan and then everyone else ripped it from those who ripped it from 123klan

Maybe I can make you hold out a little longer?
Pavement Pizza!
Another cool "urban" mark which never seems to go out of fashion!
In the UK (more northern areas) there is the chips & gravy window wash and the doner kebab scrub!

Your talking about "Street Meat" and I'm assuming this "Pavement Pizza" you speak of is a variant of just that.
pizza is a very general thing, but just like anhy other food, it's not the same wherever you get it.
Street Meat (street vended hotdogs and assorted meat) is a deadly plague that has riddled our streets like the violence of a gunfight for many years... I shall hope that Pizza does not take a similar turn to the worse.

Should add bicâ„¢ scribbled type that looks like a stamp.

actually if you want to bring up where it first appeared to be simulated (ie. not a direct result of actual spray paint), then you would want to credit artists like Barry McGee, Futura2000, Arktip (not an artist).
There was a trend in print and painting way before 123Klan, DEMO, et al picked up on it. This style was thriving for sometime.

i didn't read all this but the most cliched, trendy, hackneyed design technique is definitely complaining about cliched, trendy, hackneyed design techniques.
