oh, i am slow, swollenelbow.
maybe you should tell you have a low blood pressure and can't do early morning thing.
it depends on the company but to me, the most important thing is to get things done on time, if i come in late and don't get it done, then yeah, it's a problem. or if i am late to the clients meeting and stuff, it damages the relationship...
but you know, we are creative people. we like to take time in a morning.

when I used to work at an office I was most of the time late because most of the time i had to stay at the office 30 min to 1 hour late. and this was because the way the projects were handled.
So anyways, my boss wanted me to be on time but also stay late and skip lunch sometimes. which made no sense to me.
What I did?
For the next months I would get there 10 -15 minutes early, took 1 hour lunch brakes and as soon the clock hit 5 i would be out of the office. no matter what I was working on. Until I eventually left that job.

i have it made.
we're supposed to get in at 8:30. no biggie.
my boss rolls in at about 9:15 9:30.
so as long as i get in before him i'm gold. even when i don't he doesn't say anything cause he knows he's always late.

i used to be about 10 minutes late to everything. but since i set every clock, watch, cell phone, time-telling device i own to be 15 minutes earlier than the rest of the world, i'm always 5 minutes early ;)

i can assure you that i am probably the best employee in the company. everything gets done considering they dump large amounts of work on my plate, i think i do a pretty fuckin good darn job.

It's the same mentality here elbow, I've already been written up once for being about 5 mins. late.
At one time it was kind of like, "we expect you to stay late until your caught up, but you get zero slack on being late in the morning......"
Am I wrong for this gripe?

you need to stand up for your right to come in late!
- swollenelbow0
does my boss want me to be a hard ass like him, fusion, i'm going to do that same thing. i'll be here early but when that clock hits 6 i'm out. no questions.
i don't get it. things don't have to be like that. bosses just want to prove they are bosses.

Your boss needs reminded of what a good job you do swollenelbow. He's probably taken the extra hours you do for granted like you have taken the late timekeeping.
Have a chat about it in a nice way and see what comes out of it.

That attitude is rife Swollenelbow - I used to batter my work till the early hours very regularly, but eventually getting shit for being 15 mins late in the morn when I'd bee in till 12 the night before got to be a little annoying and I converted to confirmed 9-5er.
It's the only course of action - show them that your late-staying makes up for badly scheduled project management when everything goes tits up after you stop putting in the xtra hours.
:)

I agree, I was given the same advice, if they're gonna bitch about being on time, be on time, but hit the door at 5.......

I leave my place at 8:40am everyday and get to the office at 8:57am everyday. you could set a watch by it.

haing to drop my daughter off at daycare in the am cured me

The worse part in my case is that I was the only one staying late, and I would even finish what othe people left behind.
My boss was not really happy when at 5 the office was empty and there was no one to take care of the details.

35 miles to work and having to deal with long island traffic in the morning doesn't give me a constant travel time to work.
there are so many factors.
i can't ge this out of my head...i can't wait to rebel.

Just talk to the guy - no need to go daft.
If you speak to him first, he might apologise. If not - then take more drastic action!
