Is it normal for a printing company to charge 35% more for matte paper?
I currently have artwork for a CD sleeve at the manufacturing plant, and they wanna charge 35% more for matte paper instead of the usual semi-gloss. Is that ridiculous?

find out what paper they're using... and have another printer quote both...
... it alllll depends on the paper though - and the availability of the paper also.

Good idea. We have to use this company in the end, though, because our label has a special deal with them (not really that special it seems).

we incurr these charges as well i believe it has to do with availability and quantity
most printers keep more gloss on hand as it is on the average more popular

are you sure it's a paper change, and not a varnish they're running over the glossy? cause then I could see an extra cost for matte.
and if it is a varnish, have some fun with it!

Yeah, paper change.

It could be that when they use their 'normal' paper they put a few jobs up on the sheet sharing setup costs.
Because you want something different you may be paying for all the set up yourself.
Just a thought
