Is this the best compression product to make huge movies/AVIs into web friendly movies?
I have a 160MB AVI I need to get into a smaller size.... Maybe that is pie in the sky.

There are a few others, I cannot remember which, and then plug-ins for some of the major video editors, but as far as stand alones go it's pretty good.

You can make 160MB into a very small size, you just need to find the balance of quality/dimension vs. file size.

squeeze is your best bet.. i've created some beautifully compressed videos in it..
check www.creativedigitalgroup.com for examples of video compression using squeeze..

I am using Vegas + DVD for the editing, are there any plug-ins that you know of that would work for Vegas. I really need to get the best compression solution that is out there, so don't hold back on account of money...
Thanks

Thanks all... I have another request...
I am recording my own voice overs with a radioshack mic and Audacity. Do any of you have any tips, tricks on how to make home made voice-overs sound better, more professional?
- GeorgiePorgie0
do have access to Sound Forge?
- del_razor0
make sure your room is silent, make sure the audio quality settings are high.. and talk across the microphone.. not "into/at" it
once recorded.. run back through and check your EQ levels in audacity and add a bit more mid levels and low levels... cheap mics seem to pic up only higher tones and treble..
- GeorgiePorgie0
Im referring to your .wav file once you export out of audacity, you can master it with Sound Forge. EQ Levels is one thing that will help, but compression for a fuller sounding and richer file is another.

1. get a better mic
2. use a pop filter (a nylon stocking stretched over a looped wire coat hanger will work)
3. use a mic stand, or rig one up. don't hold the mic in your hand.
4. use a small space and surround yourself with heavy blankets or similar. this will deaden the acoustics.
5. experiment with distance from mic. artificial low end presence resulting from "eating" the mic, or speaking very closely, can work to your advantage with lower quality mics. this is called "proximity effect". this will not work without a pop filter though, you will get plosive b's and p's.
6. use compression, use compression, use compression!

Yes, I have Sound Forge...
Thanks for the tips all...
I would love to see/hear your examples of "home grown" audio/video works if you have any to inspire me with. If you have any to share, please let me know what programs you used in its production

just FYI squeeze's MPEG-2 compressor is fucking garbage, so don't use it for making DVDs. it does a fantastic job of making quicktimes and FLVs, but you'll want TMPGenc for all your MPEG needs.
