    1. get a better mic

    2. use a pop filter (a nylon stocking stretched over a looped wire coat hanger will work)

    3. use a mic stand, or rig one up. don't hold the mic in your hand.

    4. use a small space and surround yourself with heavy blankets or similar. this will deaden the acoustics.

    5. experiment with distance from mic. artificial low end presence resulting from "eating" the mic, or speaking very closely, can work to your advantage with lower quality mics. this is called "proximity effect". this will not work without a pop filter though, you will get plosive b's and p's.

    6. use compression, use compression, use compression!
