New Powerbook, when?

I am planning to buy a 15" Powerbook soon. Does anyone know if/when Apple has plans to release a upgrade, or new version of this? I'd hate to buy one, and have some snazzy new one come out the next week as Apple seems famous for doing.
I am a long time Windows user switching to Mac so I don't know how long the current Powerbook has been out.
Thanks.

the new ones have only been out for about 2 months. i would go ahead and get one because the mobile G5 wont be out until the end of this year or even next year

To be safe i'd wait until the WWDC in june. They usually make announcements there.

i agree with stv3

i just ordered mine a month ago, and that was right after they upgraded it. i'd assume it would be safe to order now.

June looks promising to me.

I am in the same situation. Want to switch to mac, but can't justify spending money on a PowerMac or those underpowered G4 Powerbooks. Hope they are going to deliever in June.

at least wait until tiger's released

the G4's are NOT underpowered, thats for sure

I don't really understand the "wait till the G5 comes out" what are you doing untill then?
Besides, buying the last machine when ic comes out could be dangerous, they are still on beta and you will be a tester for the rest of us.
My advice, if you need a computer, buy it, and use it. If you really need the latest model wait until at least 2 months after it was released then upgrade..

not really, but you'd get a much more powerful windows/linux laptop for that price and I just can't afford to put that much money in a g4 powerbook.
Haven't had a mac till now, so it ain't problematic for me to wait till they go g5.
but mac os x sure seems tempting.

Thanks for the feedback folks.
r_gaberz... I am switching because I am working on my own now and can use what I want, and I am quite fed up with XP+SP2 and just decided to give OSX a go.

OSX is like starburst laced with meth. its great when you try it but once you "get into it", its a whole nother world ;)

i've been a PC user for years (ex comp. sci. major). the G4 noteobook i just got is my first mac and it's definitely the most sexy thing i ever bought.

skelly... Has the switch experience been smooth?
- skelly0
Well I've been using macs for school work for the past couple years, but during that time I maintained my pro-PC stance. So it wasn't a cold switch, but yes it's been smooth as can be. I even bought an iPod.
I'm totally one of the macwhores I used to despise.

skelly... I am looking for a solid tool that will run the apps I want (PS, Illy, InDesign, Flash, Dreameaver), and allow me to have a decent internet experience. Windows is just driving me nuts lately. I am ready to ditch it all. I am ready to mac-whore-it-up.

I have to plug Amazon.com again. I just bought an iBook from them...no tax, free shipping and they are offering rebates on many Apple notebooks and desktops until 4/5/05. Save up to $200!

I was a solid PC user up until about 6 months ago when I finally saw the light and got an iBook. OSX is wonderful...everything about mac software is wonderful...everything about apple that I used to slag off I now find appealing...make the switch - you won't look back.
Unless you are a big gamer...in which case don't do it.
