Univers +?

i'm doing a site for an arch firm who uses Univers as their office font. i'm going to be doing the site in html & css with no flash, and i want to avoid using images for the body and menu copy.
given that, my selection of fonts will be quite limited. i want to match the vibe of Univers throught, so would Helvetica be the best choice?

Hey Ivan!
Most Windows users won't have Helvetica - that may or may not be an issue for you ...
Plus whatever font you choose will appear aliased on most Win systems ..

If you want to play up the "legibility" aspect, you could use Verdana at 10/11px .. or even Tahoma, which will be a little tighter/neater when aliased ..
Basically anyone with Microsoft Office installed will have either one.
Maybe setup a custom stylesheet for windows users?

You could use Universe, but you will have to test Arial as a backup font or something...
But that is a bit of a hassle :(

Arial is probably the closest you are going to find but like others said perhaps Verdana is a better choice. Arial never seems to hint incorrectly at small sizes in my erperience if your using 9 or 10 pt, and even the roman from the bold you cant tell the difference until you get to larger sizes.
Verdana I find to be much more readable. Mathew Carter has really designed and optimized both Verdana and Tahoma for on screen use.

Univers is nice and ready for a revival. Are you sure you can't use it anywhere?
