I've been searching throughout these threads for some good hosting solutions. Am still undecided.
My needs
- 99%+ uptime
- Shared hosting < $8 US
- MySQL
- good support
- good response time from Australia
- subdomainsI've noticed a few offer alternate domains... that'd be sweet too but not essential
Some I've found so far.
- http://www.verio.com/What's going to be the most efficient? I'm not up for fads just to be cool. eg: MT.
Cheers.

dude.
the sale they have right now which will give you 2.4 go fspace and 120 gb monthly bandwith!
and get the 2 yr hosting it is for 7.95 a month
you can sub host 3 full domains and 15 subdomains!!!+
use this code 777
and it will give you the first yr hosting for 77 cents a month.the above pkg..which i got cost me US$104.
just do itâ„¢.

My only issue with that dreamhost plan is length 2yrs.
That deal does sound really good though.
Do you have to pay US$104 upfront?
- zedvox0
yea you have to pay it all
remember to add the 777 code at checkoutdreamhost has been around a long time.the are good.

Coo. I'll consider them. But I really wanted to pay monthly instead of the big outlay.

agrees with zed
been pretty happy with dreamhost for the past 4 years

So basically with this Dreamhost plan you get first year at 77c/month then the 2nd year $7.95/month.
Because you have to pay the whole thing up front this means nothing. You need to know what it ends up costing per month average. $104 divided by 24mths.
Works out to $4.30 US... or $5.40 AUD
Which is great!

99% uptime means 72 and change hours of downtime in a given year.
that's not acceptable, imo
- fixate0
Realistically 100% is not achievable.
I meant the host with really really solid uptime... as in the best.

Going to go with media temple as I don't want to be tied in with a 2 year contract.
- Donvitoviti0
you dont have to pay dreamhost all up front???? you only do if you want the 8 dollar price...
you can do month by month for 9.99..
well worth it for me.

Just dont go with angryhosting.com.. They could not have picked a better name for their company. I was in a rush so I did and find out that they dont even have email forwarding features.
- fixate0
Why would I pay $9.99, when media temple charges $7.95.
- derek20050
(mt) fucking rules.
their knowlage base and customer support are INSANE :)
I wouldnt even think twice. go with what works... hit me an email if you want specifics.. ive been with them for a while

hummm is it even possible to register with Dreamhost if you're not American?
- ribit0
OMG... they have a citizenship test before signing up for webhosting now?
- fifty500
no no... just in the signup area it asks for a 2-letter country code and it was pre-filled with US, and they have fields for "State" and "zip code"... but I tried "DE" for my country code and Bayern for my state and it worked. *phew*

ive been using lunarpages, theyve been really good so far, but i dont know anyone else using them. so sometimes i worry, but really, theyve been just great.

uptime seems pretty good. and no bandwidth cap/limiting.
they do limit slightly the type of contents you can have though.
$9.95/mo. No Contract.

I've heard of speed issues with Dreamhost. Views?
