This is something I did up for my sister. She is a freelance make-up artist and photographer in Miami right now. She wanted something simple to highlight her diverse work.

i dunno man, start by designing on a grid, and organize and stick to typefaces (all uppercase vs. lowercase) etc.

The Joy looks a bit plain. the card is getting better though

jevad, What is GRID? Do you mean "turn the grid on in photoshop?" I know some of the things were misaligned (me throwing this together.. no$ I get lazy) ... I have tried to fix it up... changed the type a bit - moved the nav
For some reason this thread went up twice... urgh..

uncalled for cloned...uncalled for

understand the grid, then design with or without.
the tone you're setting does not match the logo. It feels heavy and awkward.
Keep at it...

(Mar 9 05, 15:06)jevad introduced this man to the idea of a grid. more than you've done, cloned.

I like the JOY treatment on the card. Here;'s my suggestion on that:
Do not overlap anything on or around the joy [ie your web address and teh white rectangle].
Leave JOY where it is, maybe smaller, and put all th text on the right side. It will be much cleaner and simpler and nicer, which look slike the goal.
And don't stretch your fonts.

they deleted cloned's post.
good.as for the grid thing: RedFridge said it best. I only use a grid when I have to i.e. very clean minimalist, or corporate stuff. most of the time i enjoy destroying the grid. that said, you seem to want to do both with your designs. for continuity's sake, pick one direction and go with it.

much like rules, you must know the grid before you break the grid.
read the muller-brokmann book now.

the logo can hold up on the card because it hides its main flaw. when it stands alone it resembles a pregnant animal.
it might work better if the J reflected the curve of the O
:)

don't really like the joy logo on the upper left... the J and the Y are on the same level and the O is pretty big.
works better when truncated on the business card though.

It's a good start. When people talk about Grid Design, they mean this: Pretend there are lines extending from the top, bottom, and sides of your design element. Or don't just pretend actually draw them.
Now make those lines align and work in harmony and proportion to each other, hence making you elements (text, graphics) work in harmony and proportion.
Btw, don't have big nasty arial text telling me to use the arrow keys. Just let me clicks those arrows you already put in there, that is good enough.
I think the logo is decent, but remember to never stretch text, like on the Biz Card. The Biz card heavily suffers from misaligned elements.
All you need to do is polish this and rethink some things. Keep going!

Grid systems. Glad someone told me to read that one. Very beneficial.

I dont discuss about the design that has already been said. Very IMPORTANT:The idea of the black and white photos for a Make-up artist is bad businnes.
Make-up is all about colors!
