a small design firm i used to work for hasn't paid me in months because they said that their client's weren't paying... my question is that, should it concern me ?? i mean, should it at all affect the way i get paid ? i think it shouldn't.

as for you not getting paid thats bogus if you are gettin paid bi weekly then u should keep getting paid just becasue mcdonalds doesnt sell enough burgers doesnt mean your buddy Steve that served you doesnt get his pay !!!
QUIT QUIT QUIT before u get fucked again

there is no way in hell they can use that as an excuse to not pay you. You work for them, and they must pay you - it's them who should be out of pocket, not you! It aint your problem to deal with!

You should be rewarded for services rendered. Your contract was with the design firm, not their clients.

dude we're on the same boat.
you wanna get together and discuss which brand of fuel works better

unless a contract with some weird clause was signed no you should get your money after 30, 60, 90 days after that they are breaking the law.

there should be a site devoted to where not to work if your a designer/coder.

Like a designer/developer blacklist? Good idea.
- mevsthem0

wow. hold your horses there. stricly speaking: no. they're not getting paid shouldn't concern you at all. so you can be as trigger happy as you can be. but, as you said, they are a small design firm and thus likely with a lack of financial means. which doesn't make it right but just keep that in mind that it's a valid situation.
that doesn't mean you shouldn't do nothing. just assess the situation and react accordingly. if they think you're stupid and think they can play you with those type of arguments then learn them a lesson. but playing hardball guarantees for sure you're not getting any job out of them in the future (albeit that they'll be shitty at paying).

People. Here's the deal. For new clients or sketchy one's get some cash up front...at least a third. They should pay as you play.

I get 50% at the halfway mark. That way they have seen just enough to want to complete the project. All files are on my server and are not released until the last 50% clears.
ps. use the purple racing/airplane fuel, it burns real hot.

You work for the client, not their client. You better have a contract with them if not you deserve what you get.
Tell them the way things work. You do the work they pay you regardless if they get paid or not. Besides, how do you know they didn't get paid and are just f-ing with you?
If it's a site, take that shit down NOW!
