Hey... I got a quick question for all the flash masters here.
Is there any way to invert a mask in flash... so rather than the mask showing an area, it actually hides it.
Thanks!

Make the mask around it instead of on it.?..

i'd like to know that to
- tactikal20
yes... that would be the normal easy solution..
unfortunately the shapes I'm working with won't work with that solution (not without a ridiculously large amount of work)
I have found a work around for my particular problem, but If there is anyone who does have some idea how to invert a mask I'm all ears :)
Thanks again.

well as for a simple function for inverting... i don't think there's anything.
My workaround was to have 4 layers. The background layer, the object, a duplicate of the background layer and then the mask.
works like a charm.

tried it once with text via AS.
not possible.
&
flash handles badly mask w/ 'holes'.
ie:
if mask == a rectangle with a
circular hole in the middle, you should sepearate it in two shape.no holes. no problems.

In your mask symbol, if you have a large square and a small circle that cuts a hole in it (in flash or in Illustrator, take your pick), then you have your solution. Make the large square larger than the size of the movie. Make your circle the shape you want for your mask.

Hey in regards to the mask with holes not working - try breaking it apart then regrouping - its a lame ass fix but it works most of the time... Ive been using a lot of choppy masks and it works good.
Or just make it in photoshop as a png24 .

a transparent PNG will not retain its alpha values as a mask in Flash... it just creates a mask the same size as the PNG.
But if I'm wrong on that one then somebody let me in on the secret... cause transparent PNG masks would be pretty cool.

well not exactly a 'mask' > more of an image that retains its alpha.
