in some paper I wrote for some film-theory class years ago.
Oh man..my head hurts just thinking about the leaps of logic I made...
- Mal0
nice one toastie pure torture.
- milo_minara0
as interested as I was to read it all, I couldn't bare to watch any longer... ugh
where is the text only version?
- bgheen0
That was the worse use of 4 minutes of my life thus far.
Give me a text file and be done with it.
I didn't realize people didn't understand the movie?
- toastie0
oh my god, please realize that i was being extremely sarcastic.

Does that babysitter happen to cater grownups to? A...friend of mine's inquiring.

A friend of mine accidentally took some acid at the age or nine or 10 or something (well don't leave that shit lying around, eh?). His pannicking babysitter decided to take him to see 2001 while he was tripping. Pretty cool, huh? Anyways, the flash anim was kinda lame, agreed, but i also dig that quite from peteski.

Kubrick = Best director ever
- bk_shankz0
But what about that part where it was like I'm on acid and there's all these colors melting and shit. Whay was that?
- bk_shankz0
You look just Stanley Kubrick! No wonder you got it.
- waynepixel0
All though I kinda got it when I first saw it at the age of 10.
Yar Right.

The fact is that a crew of people actually dedicated themselves to creating this reflection upon one of the greatest and most misunderstood films of all time.
That I can appreciate.
All though I kinda got it when I first saw it at the age of 10.
Nonetheless it'll be fun to pass around.
And don't tell me how much I look like Stan, I hear all the time.

i liked everything before the animation started, and everything after it ended.
- waynepixel0
And that crap flash animation did explain a lot. :)
- waynepixel0
I just want to now, what is the next "evolutionary destiny for man kind
"Send it on a postcard too.
Bla bla bla Star baby. Space.
- beagle0
wow, that really did explain everything, thanks peteski.

believe it or not, I keep this handy.
KUBRICK: "No, I don't mind discussing it, on the lowest level, that is, straightforward explanation of the plot. You begin with an artifact left on earth four million years ago by extraterrestrial explorers who observed the behavior of the man-apes of the time and decided to influence their evolutionary progression. Then you have a second artifact buried on the lunar surface and programmed to signal word of man's first baby steps into the universe -- a kind of cosmic burglar alarm. And finally there's a third artifact placed in orbit around Jupiter and waiting for the time when man has reached the outer rim of his own solar system.
When the surviving astronaut, Bowman, ultimately reaches Jupiter, this artifact sweeps him into a force field or star gate that hurls him on a
journey through inner and outer space and finally transports him to another part of the galaxy, where he's placed in a human zoo approximating a hospital terrestrial environment drawn from his own dreams and imagination. In a timeless state, his life passes from middle age to senescence to death. He is reborn, an enhanced being, an angel, a superman, if you like, and returns to earth prepared for the next leap forward of man's evolutionary destiny. That is what happens on the film's simplest level. Since an encounter with an advanced interstellar intelligence would be incomprehensible within our present earthbound frames of reference, reactions to it will
have elements of philosophy and metaphysics that have nothing to do with."

No, didn't blew my mind (as the actual movie did) but I can see the use of it for anyone who missed the points in the movie.
