in os9 you can put an application alias in the start up folder and it would launch on start up.
how do i do this on osx?

Go into system preferences, goto accounts and you'll find a user prefs bit which allows you to add applications during startup.

theres a tick box thing in the finder preferences just choose your app and tick the box.
