I'm a 3D noobie...if i learn this app, what will it be like when I go to say, 3D max or Maya?

the only reason i said that earlier is you will learn things that wont be relevant to high end modelers
using a high end app will just put you back at square one

It's good enough for the basics: vertex modeling, learning to model and edit in a 4 viewport setup, texturing, surface qualities, cam control and shot setup, creating scenes, animating, Rigging characters.
The concepts you can learn, but it won't be a direct translation as far as what keys and what you click in order to do the same in another program. But that's the same with most 3d apps, they usually require a book to learn from continuously.

thanks fate,
yea, i'm looking to get the basic concepts down. I've been going through the site and it seems like they have a pretty good community going. lots of tuts and a few books, too.
