Kicked it with a blind organ player tonite. incredible guy. We were talking about the internet and blind peeps and how it works. This guy has never used the internet except through friends, to get info on things. Anyone got any experience with screen reading software?
We had a 20 minute talk about the color blue. It got real metaphorical and was very interesting.
I think I want to pursue this more and see if any of yall have dealt with anything like this.
Thanks players.

i know that windows comes with a standard screen reader that speaks out all the text on a website. not sure how it interprets flash though. for images it reads out the alt tags i believe.
the guy sounds interesting. did he know what the color blue is?

saf, 20 minute conversation that involved cold, wet and hurt, that sort of thing. he kept bringing it back to blues music and i think he equates the color blue with the blues. It was fucking dope talking to him. Very interesting. I want to find out where I can get involved in this. Id rather deal with musicians though, which may make it a bit more difficult. Im aiming high at this point. But I think that blindness is something that I would really want to volunteer for. Need to figure it out. I need something like that in my life, for sure. I cant keep taking and taking and taking. I think music could be a serious bridge. I dont know, but Id like to get involved in some way. maybe just making funky mixes for some old peeps or ??? what do you think?

that may have come off a bit wierd, but I think that we work in such a visual biz that it blows my mind that these guys are completley left behind. The funk is quite a bridge though!

i think thats a very noble idea especially since you are such a huge music buff.
i wouldnt know where to start on such a project but you could get a small website going where you people can information about blind musicians, where they are playing or anything like that. even biographies or a directory listing.
if you are really serious about investing some time into it then perhaps something purevolume for blind musicians. http://www.purevolume.com
of course not has huge as purevolume because that would be like a full time job.
you could help upload their music and once a month maybe even update the featured artiste with a short interview and such.
i don't know. i am just rambling. its 2am and i've been moving stuff all day so i am a little slow. heavy stuff still remains.

*where people can get information about...
if only i got a dollar for every typo i make.
- lifeinbinary0
aaargh! there are 5 billion typos in that post.
let me rephrase...

JAWS
this is the german standard for screen reading software.
I'm currently working on a website for a large german blind community

saf, this looks great.
with all of the beneficial things that people do for disadvantaged folks, I think that the blind are really thrown by the wayside. I am going to look into what I can do locally first and then see what happens.
you are the boss for getting me hyped on this. thank you very much for taking the time to talk about this and firing me up! If anyone has any resources that would be very helpful. I think working it into music makes it very more appealing for everyone and especially for me!
I think I just needed your push, homeboy. Thank you.

nice tomkat, someone is patting you on the back for that besides me.
what would we do if we were blind?
- lifeinbinary0
i was just rambling. but glad it helped.
here is some info on a local (local for me) arizona dude. he recently won a scholarship:

would love to see him in concert.best of luck. keep us posted about the plans or if there is anyway we can help.

I think I figured it out. Im going to check out homes for the blind and see if I can make them mix cds, no matter what genre. If they like the funk they will be straight blessed, if they dont I will do my best! Plus I will probably learn a ton about other sorts of music.
Thanks again homey, you have been a constant force of positive reinforcement to me for like three years. I have never met you in real life, but you are the motherfucking boss.

mr dob-
you should video interview or record on tape or audio of somesort and post cool clips and shit online to keep poeple aware or just a personal online diary of it
- lifeinbinary0
hahaha, that is brilliant! i kid you not. very very cool idea. let us know how it goes.
clone's idea is super too. if filming is a pain, you could keep a blog (not a blog blog, but you know what i mean) where you post your experiences with the project. it would make a nice document and perhaps inspire someone somewhere.
best of luck.

alright, i am out. still got a ton of shit to move and its getting close to 3am. we'll have to continue this tomorrow/monday.
you are a good man. you, me and kona need to hang out and sort things out, haha :)
- lifeinbinary0
rick, did you think about this anymore? the mix tapes idea is pretty cool.
- mrdobolina0
Yep, I am going to drop off some mix discs at a council home of the blind next week. I called around and found that most of them are interested in this sort of thing. Im going to do a cocktail party type mix first, seems there are a lot of sinatra fans at this certain center. :)

thanks awesome man.
keep us posted. it'd be great to hear their stories.
- mrdobolina0
I played with the microsoft narrator screen reader too.
works like shit.
- lifeinbinary0
*that's awesome man
(typos are like cancer. keep getting worse).
and yeah the MS narrator is a bitch. i tried it for a few minutes and was thoroughly annoyed. i can't imagine having to browse through that all the time.

my idea is to drop off a few cd's a few weeks in a row and then maybe stop by and see if anyone has any requests.
