so yesterday i got pulled over and got a ticket for speeding. this was in ny state.
so now i have to pleed not guilty at court i guess... if i just pay it straight out i will get 6 points on my license, and i already have 3 or 4.
any good ideas on how to get them to drop the ticket?

ah, yes, in a perfect world i would not speed.

Tell them you're a terrorist and amazingly the speeding ticket will be a minor concern.

If NY state is anything like Jersey, then pleading not guilty is just gonna make things worse. If you plead not guilty, the judge is gonna set a trial date, and you have to hire a lawyer. Lawyer fees could be anywhere between $200 (state-assigned) and $700 or more.
My advice: talk to the prosecutor, see if he/she can bump down the offense. That way, you'll pay a little more in court fees and fines, but you'll get fewer points (maybe as low as 2).

in Texas you can talk your way out with the judge, or in some places you just pay extra money for not getting any points in your license
for example if your ticket was 150 you pay 350 and no points are added to your license
or talk to the judge, usually she/he will tell you no to get any tickets for the next 60 days and everything is good.
Oh, almost forgot in some cases you can take Defensive driving and its all good. like you pay 60 bucks for the ticket and 60 for the class, you can take DD from home on your computer, rent a video from bock buster or any video rental or in the last case you can attend a 3 hour class in 2 days or one day 6 hour class. which in the end it takes your ticket away and also in some cases your insurance company will give you a discount for taking Defensive Driving.
I have gotten about 10 tickets and still no points in my license ;)
Insurance companies will charge whole lot with tickets in your license

get a good lawyer or something. i recently had a meeting with some lawyers, it's good to have them on your side.
you just need to figure out the cost of points taken off and insurance going up.

How far over the speed limit were you traveling? Here in NC, if you are within 9 miles of the speed limit, they drop the charges and you pay court costs. I got caught speeding 15 miles over the speed limit and the DA dropped it down to 9 over.
Unfortunately, this was my first speeding ticket... sound like you may have more.

Tell them you were under cover, that you work for a secret government agency and that if you're don't return to your secret rendez-vous point, the remote control cyanide-filled capsule burried at the base of your spine will be detonated and you will die but not without taking them all with you. Then throw your head back ang "Mwah ha haha harr", wink, slap the side of your head a bit, turn around, bendover and countdown from 50 in a scary voice....

if you stop doing speed you will be fine

lol dippy i got pulled over in jerz doing 87 in 55 - i got a written warning :P
- anzelina0
87 in a 55 and you only got a written warning?
i was doing 83 in a 65, and that = 6 points.
i got a ticket a little over a year ago for doing 55 in a 30 and when i went to court the officer automatically dropped the charges to only doing 40 in a 55. i still paid the same fee but points were a lot lower.
but this is a different town and i'm not sure how the judge is going to handle it. i just can't have my insurance go up...

i got pulled over for doing 95 at 60, with an expired license....on xmas day.
needless to say, i had to pay a huge price.
- ricstultz0
just take the ticket... going to court really sucks. If you were caught speeding take it like a grown up.
- dippy0
Haha, that's because you are teh haute, taragee! Cops take one look at me and they give me another ticket for being ugly.
Although I should tell you guys that I've never been pulled over for speeding. Ever. But for other offenses... that's a different story.

I got caugh coming out of Nebraska into colorado doing 100 in a 75... it was only $50 with no points... gotta love colorado.
So easy to speed thru the flat states.

I can tell you how to get away with four wanted stars in San Andreas if that's of any help to you?
- robotron3k0
you should have just told them you were racing not speeding, it would be a different ticket and i don't think it effects your insurance the same way as speeding...
