heya
so, im about to purchase Logic Pro (come to think it will be my first legal software purchase) because of their fantastic copy protection! (USB key)
r there many Logic users out there on NT, ..s it as good as it looks/sounds?
I really want to further my production skills, ive been 'evaluating' different Audio programmes, but Logic seems to be 'the one'
so make me feel good about spening the thousand buckers on this software!! ;)
ta.

we use a mix of adobe audition on windows and audacity/ardour on linux for production audio here.
we upgraded from sawpro to audition.
- blackspade0
adobe audition? havent checked it out.
im OSX
when I say 'production' i mean, making my own beats, sampling, thru a MIDI keyboard etc, recording my Guitar.
basicaly I want to record/write my own songs.
- JackDB0
Have you considered Digital Performer?
- sparker0
ah. see, we're a radio station market...when i hear audio production i think of commercials, shows, music, etc...
- blackspade0
hmmm no Jack, but thanks ill check it out
from what ive seen of Logic it looks to be exactly what im after
Have you used Digital Performer in comparison to Logic ?
anyone who swears by Logic here !?
- Fritz0
Id go for logic. It has the most versatility around when producing beats. Especially when you make your own sounds and sequences, not just using midi ballads.
It was bought by Mac and is now Mac only. The plugins are amazing as well. THey add so much leverage to what you accomplishing.
I use the old PC version... With automation and building your own fileters and so on...
- blackspade0
nice, thanks Fritz
yes the Mac owned thing is a biggie.
I wasnt to sample, snares/kicks etc
then activate thru midi, quantisizing the timing, and shit like that
(im still audio n00bish)

You must have done some good amount of research to find that Logic is the best option. Its just so thorough that you cant go wrong. All of those features you mention are very useful in Logic and even deeper in applying them to your tracks...
good luck, send me an email with links to your audio when you get up and going.
- blackspade0
sorry that should be:
I *want* to sample, snares/kicks etc
is that what the "huh"was for DP ?
- dopepope0
nope black. I have no idea what you guys are talking about. But spock is the No.1 logic user.
- blackspade0
oh k DP lol,
dont worry I dont really know what im talking about either
Thanks Fritz
Logic it is!!! :D
any other feedback.. hit me up
- JackDB0
I've been using DP for almost 6 years. I use it to compose with (songs and soundtracks) and I find it very intuitive, yet extremely powerful. DP is however, a bit of an energy-sucker.
- blackspade0
have you used Logic also?
be nice to hear from someone who has used both,, to compare.

Hey Blackspade
Im a music producer (mainly drum n bass) but I have done some comercial work too.
I was doing music way back in the day of D.O.S. Trackers, in 93-94 when I swithed to macs a few years ago I tried Digital performer wich is what I most of my friends on mac where using at the moment, I had it for a few months, and to me seemed very unintuitive, most people I knw had been using it for a long time, but I was new to it and I gave up.
I took some Logic classes at NAB 2 years ago, and the UI was deffenetly way nicer than DP4, Make sure Logic uses standard VST's (hardware is cool by vst are getting better everyday, and more and more music producers are replacing them instead of hardware)I did liked Logic a lot, but they bought cubase at my work so I started using it, and I like it a lot.
Is also cross platform so that means more users and more developement towards it.
I will deffenetly love to own logic sometime, and exepriment with my set up, but untill then, cubase it is.You might found this very usefull if you want to decide
They dont have classes for DP4 yet, but you can compare between logic and cubase.
- blackspade0
hey thanks Meeklo, aweseome
I have an opportunity to Logic at Education Price ($598) so I dont have any excuses not to dive in and buy it
thanks for the tip on DP
- JackDB0
Actually, you can study Digital Performer online at Berklee.

I bought the book that accompanies this course, and found it far less daunting than the manual.
