Just to add, _quality is a _global property. No need for _root.

thanks to you all fro the quick assistance - i think we got her as good as can be for now thanks to the root quality tips
we inherited part of this project and are trying to make the best of it without completely reworking

I would also make sure that your tweens (x,y coords)are set to whole pixels as well

That's as good as it gets my friend.
You could also import the pans as a flv/mov file so Flash doesn't interprete the frame translations.
Not recommended for the web however. CDROM only / standalone player.

both good tips - would the _root._quality explain why the image movie appears fine on its own but distorted when placed within another movie
I have to explain to coworker
I will try it

_root._quality = "Best"
The _quality property can be set to the following values:
"LOW" Low rendering quality. Graphics are not anti-aliased, and bitmaps are not smoothed.
"MEDIUM" Medium rendering quality. Graphics are anti-aliased using a 2 x 2 pixel grid, but bitmaps are not smoothed. Suitable for movie clips that do not contain text.
"HIGH" High rendering quality. Graphics are anti-aliased using a 4 x 4 pixel grid, and bitmaps are smoothed if the movie clip is static. This is the default rendering quality setting used by Flash.
"BEST" Very high rendering quality. Graphics are anti-aliased using a 4 x 4 pixel grid and bitmaps are always smoothed.

It is because you are scaling a bitmap... it is doing it on the fly nor like photoshop that calcualtes the nearest neighbour etc...
one way to make it a little better is to turn smoothing on... but I think you'll still get it...
your best bet is to just move the image x and y and not scale it... you'll get the same effect and won't slow peoples machines down either

tried the alpha 99% after some searching here in the PVN - did not correct the situation
- Mimio0
Try setting the image symbol opacity to 99%

a coworker is using an image panning effect in flash but the jpgs seem to be distorted - creating a rather unpleasant 'wavy' effect.
The standalone swf (imagery area) doesnt have the problem but when the main swf pulls the imagery swf in (placed via Actioncript) the waviness appears - like your watching the movie in the desert - heat waves!

(then pick either section)Anyone have any tips to resolve this?
