there is absolutely a climax in the gates of Christo. you get to walk through it.

blimey, this got very deep all of a sudden.
You could probably apply that Richter quote to 99 percent of stuff up here. They'll always be someone to justify the opposite.
- vburo0
well that's personal i think, in what differs walking and experiencing art to sitting and watching a screen to experience art?
- vburo0
and that Richter quote is not appropriate here.
- soda0
...and reading it again I don't actually agree with the quote.
Art for art's sake isn't pointless.
Not at all.
- mogwai0
art with an idea behind it is always appropriate. you started calling it art, comparing it to Vangogh and Christo.

Soda didn't you learn in school to have a concept first, an idea before you start designing. thats all.
and for the record, the YKK piece was nice to look at, i just like having these discussions.

---------------yep of course I did, but thanks for being so helpful.
I feel that art for art's sake is useful. It's where I have learned most or produced my most creative work.
I do enjoy these discussions too by the way!

sorry if i came off as condescending with school remark.
i agree that Art for Art's sake has its place as a tool, excercise platform, or personal therapy. but how well does it hold up for the viewer? it doesn't. it gets a "thats nice."

the YKK piece to does this for me
"oh cool, it really is well composited right there. oh look, it really looks like it is floating over the trees right there"
and then maybe a little ambient vibe that i might get if i was at home smoking a bowl.
- vburo0
""oh cool, it really is well composited right there. oh look, it really looks like it is floating over the trees right there"
"but that makes you sound like a designer. and you probably are. We tend to look with a far more different eye to this stuff. ;)

So we agree right??!?;)

my job is really more a CG artist and a painter at home then a designer. i just play the part of designer at work sometimes.
but see it works on that level of coolness, but thats not enough. we have come out of the age of deliberate 3D. good 3D should be transparent these days.
and as designers, we should expect more out of a piece than coolness, or eye candy.
- vburo0
" good 3D should be transparent these days.
"i doubt. it's all depending of the level of artificial effect in the concept.
and for as long as i know Delta is not the kind of person/artist to create this just to show off technical skillz. Merely it is just part of his ongoing studies in space and geometric abstraction.
you should really check out his original grafz and drawings and installations etc.

Well it beats watching bloody NIKE ADVERTS.

LOL waynepixel

cool. a decent discussion...
- davey_g0
Damn, that's just amazing. Slow, simple, yet beautiful.
Nice one!

I think this piece is all about the warm feeling you get while watching it. Delta's incredible sense of form, and the slick compositing go without saying!
I wish this was 10x longer, and I could watch it projected on a wall (nick you know what i'm saying). Laiiiiid back.

a little off subject, but I saw some crazy movie on the Sundance channel on Wednedsay night called Koyaanisqatsi by Godfrey Reggio. It was filmed in 1982 and is just clips people and their environments at varios speeds; with subtle music. It's really interesting. Maybe even one of pioneers of this type of film.
