i never got the vinyl purists. There's a threshold to human hearing man, above which it doesn't matter if you're a gazillion HZ, you aint gonna pick up that shit. Trust, decent system, decent CD player, can't go wrong.

I use my vinyl as cool coasters. Currently I have an original 1982 Grandmaster Flash "The Message" on vinyl that prevents my table from getting watermarks from ma mug o' tea.

think recycling would be the answer surely?
mind you this is maybe why all the turntable brands are putting so much effort into these "scratchable" cd turntables.
definitely agree with whoever said about "u cant beat bumpin into the deck and knockin the needle flyin across it when pissed"
- maybe they should incorporate a button onto these new fangled cd decks that simulates this.

Waking up to the needle bouncing off the center of the record when you don't have and automatic turntable. Or delicatley moving the needle over to certain trank and then dropping it when pissed.
So many memories, so many scratched recordsWhy do you have to fiddle with the belt on flashy turntables in order to play 45's though? It's really annoying

I love my records... they sound warmer.
Ipod and vinly... I say fuck cd's. They are the disposable medium. Most large museums still use vinyl to catalogue all recordings... it is the only medium that doesnt degrade over time.

"it is the only medium that doesnt degrade over time."
- yeah, only if its NEVER played!

yes i agree that sometimes for some people buying vinyl is partly a fashion statement, but it is so much more than that. i love the way it sounds, the way it feels to put one on the record player, to click the button so the needle lands on the record and then magical music comes out.
plus the packaging is usually so much better than a cd's, a lot of indie bands put some amazing packaging ideas into their albums. :)

(Feb 18 05, 06:23)as long as you aren't a fool with your vinyl it'll last forever... I know guys who have been listening to the same records for 40 years...

i like to think that design isn't about fashion.
i also like to think that the analogue/digital binarism reflects a deeper aesthetic decision.
but it's the thinking of these thoughts that makes me the kind of person who prefers vinyl; not the other way around.

i must admit, i don't have a preference at all. it just depends on the kind of music I am buying.
It's just rare soul, funk and northern soul that I buy on 7's and LPs or 12" re-releases.
Everything else is bought on CD or downloaded from t'internet.

"Hardest hit will be the few remaining traditionalist vinyl Disc Jockeys” Tower Records confirmed.
The few remaining!?! That's the dumbest thing I've heard all week!
I'll never switch from vinyl to CD. If that means I'm stuck playing "Such Great Heights" over "Warhead" from DJ Krust, then so be it.

I find the convienece and relitive hardiness of CD's to out weigh Vinyl's asthetic and tactile qualities.
- ricstultz0
cd's are really the dated medium.... might as well go to Mp3 or somethin.
ipod and vinyl = ace!

anyone still listen to 8-tracks?

Pah, I have a chamber orchestra permanently set up in my garage
Ahh, the memories, getting home pissed and knocking the cellist off his chair.
