firewire a dvd drive

an easier option is just to make a disc image of all the install CD's and just mount them on your desktop.

From the Apple Suport site:
You CANNOT install Panther with these disks. If these are DVDs you have a set of hardware specific software install & restore DVDs. You cannot install from them on any other computer model but the one they shipped with since they simply lack the hardware drivers for other machines. You have to buy the retail full install CDs.
Sounds like you might be screwed unless you know someone with the full retail CDs....
Good luck!

thats a crock c_ville, of course apple is going to say that so you buy more.
i installed OSX on my G4 tower and i used the install disc that came with my 17" PB... a little more than a year later and i have never had a problem with the tower.

You can instal from one Mac to another Macs disk. You can do network install toi multiple Macs from a single disk image and also NetBoot with OSX Server

i just bought an external DVD drive (firewire) last week for about 120 euro's..
works like a charm, plug&play.

then there's your solution. do a network install.
i do them all the time for linux thin clients. usually goes smoothly.
i'm sure there is something on apple's support site about it.

if i put the dvd into my powerbook and boot it up as an external HD w/ a firewire cable, i should be able to do it that way right?
