now that you've seen the dark side, you can help bring justice. go and kill the ones who asked you to write the code. and their friends. and their familes. and even their friends. and their pets.
dont rest until its all done. bathroom breaks are okay though.

"referrer spam" - Are you talking about spam that gets sent out from your domain/outgoing server, even though you never sent it?
I have a client that is about to change her domain b/c of this issue.
It's alright toastie, everyone loves a good whore every now and then. :)

instead of changing domains, they need to implement some good technologies to stop it...like spf, and white/black listing, and maybe suck it up and buy a spam appliance like a barracuda.
changing domains will fix the problem until they spoof the new domain.

Make an .htaccess file with the domains/patterns you see, setting a 'BadReferrer' environment variable, and then using mod_rewrite to kill it:
SetEnvIfNoCase Referer ".*(spammerdomain).*" BadReferrer
SetEnvIfNoCase Referer ".*(spammer-shop).*" BadReferrer
SetEnvIfNoCase Referer ".*(easyspammoney).*" BadReferrer
order deny,allow
deny from env=BadReferrerHope that helps.

jeff, that seems like a never ending war. i see new domain names spamming every other day. i've tried banning those particular IP address using .htaccess but new ones keep popping up.
i am on the verge of smashing my monitor into the wall. but that wont accomplish much i guess.

Spam is always a never-ending war ... you can try to be clever, and write a PHP or perl script that will process your logs and auto-generate the .htaccess file for you, or you can ignore it, because it's not really doing that much damage 90% of the time (unless it's so common as to DDoS you - in which case, track the IP and call their ISP).
Bottom line - just like all spam, it's persistent and annoying, and you're going to have to either put up with it, or find some way to automate the killing.

never give away your real email address to anyone who you do not trust, never post your real email address on any messageboard or newsgroup.
Use a Verification system.
Use Filters
Just some ideas.

For the past year I've been having real problems with this kind of thing. I read that Google are the ones giving out the newly allocated ID's...
Does anyone know how to do something about it?
I have 12 or so domains where it's a real problem and I don't even use stats anymore because they're so wrong.

I found this article yesterday.

I agree with the author, there is no way to stop the spam referrals but you can tweak your reports to ignore them.

Wanted to check holiday traffic to my sites, got so pissed off I had to log out.
Has anyone tried haveamint.com and is it any good?
Or, what are some alternatives that get rid of this referrer spam BS?I've put this through my account:
referrerspamblocker.com - and it works, but the next day there's a new spammer and the API calls to Google are limited.Need a proper solution for this.
