I like whoreditch but its too expensive to live there. Would rather live somewhere a bit removed but still easy to get too.

I'd like to have a god-damn choice where I live.
Money's a bitch.

"YOU DON'T LIKE THE GARAGE?"
To be fair I've only been the once to some indie night (with a couple friends that actually like guitar music).
I felt like I was in some kind of student union.
Didn't go back.

Bethnal Green - it's a wee bit of a hole BUT yer near 3 tube lines, Brick lane, Old street and whoreditch are all walkable. 5 minutes to Liverpool St on bus or choob.

Argh....
Befnal!
I hate bethnal green... I think it stems from an age old hatred born from growing up in Whitechapel (by far the classier of the two!)
I did work in Bethnal Green as a lad on the market no less....oh dear, I feel like this is turning back into the cockney slang thread of last week....
*polishs pearly suit and gets cockles and winkles ready...

A bit late coming to this one but I would say that the thing about London is that it's very spread out and a lot of areas are great for their own particlur thing.
South London's good for living cause it's cheaper, there are more parks and trees, and so long as your on the tube or a big mainline rail station the public transport is fine. Clapham , Balham and Battersea have lots of good eating and drinking although with the notable exception of Inigo on Wansdworth Rd (which is genius) the clubs are shite.
Shoreditch has some of my favourite clubs like Herbal and 333 Old St, but it's full of total c*nts and I'm saying that being a designer who's a total c*nt anyway. Shoreditch is too much even for me so I tend to stay out of the bars. (The same goes for Hoxton btw). The other downside about East London is that most of it was bombed in the war and as such the cityscape is pretty depressing. Brick Lane and Spitalfields have a bit more character and (a few) less idiots.
West London can be cool enough bar the cocaine / kids brigade mentioned by vespa above. The Notting Hill Arts Club is one of my favourite music venues, and there are some good bars in Notting Hill. Expect to pay through the nose for drinks though.
North London (Islington, Angel, Faringdon) is nice enough but mostly populated by advertising types with silly facial hair and a habit of going to the toilet a bit too regularly.

Oh - and I forgot to mention Brixton - which is a little bit scary but great fun and has good bars / clubs / music and cheap eating out.

mrming if I didn't know any better i'd say you typed all that after a line.
