I definitely learned more on my own than in school. That's how it always works. You don't learn shit until you actually get out there and do it.

I've taken a couple of classes here:
Top notch stuff. Tons of fun. The typography class is up next and I'm really lookin' forward to it. I've gotta pay for the trip to Europe first though... :(

exactly - i mean you have the talent in the first place not some title of fucking ART SCHOOL - i hate it! its total shit!! I feel it's full of pretentious fuckwits - i'm sure there are people that went there are probaly thinking this and know that they feel indifferent and know that they can shine by being themselves and not lbe part of the crowd!

I an doing my foundation ourse atm, I don't hink of it as anything other than ther best place for me to learn atm, I don't care where I go, as long as I am happy.
fuckwits who want social status from art are complete pricks, do it for the art, not yourself.

Art Institute degree - I wouldn't have learned much if i didn't take alot of the education into my own hands.

That's true. I pretty much learned everything I wanted to know on my own.

at my stage, most people learn how to make a shitty poster or abstract painting and get a job in a supermarket/fastfood industry.
you need to do your own study

i did design and typography fro print in edinburgh in a small college - i met amazing people and i had a blast but at the end of the day i couldn't get a job but i have so much experience in print, design, typography - etc cause i have worked in every aspect of the desing industry.
unfortunatly i couldn't get a job in design - maybe cuase i wasn;t forseful enough maybe cause i didn't have the confidence and the correct guidence - i reckon its opion two!
anyway i am happy cause ven thoug i went to a local college i met loads of people and my BF and also learn a lot and now i'm a t traffic/production manager - i love it and i still enjoy coming on this site and viewing other peoples opinions and designs ets and i have to say that this site is an ispiration.
ok i love you all - and i'm gonna shut-the-fuck-up!!!!

I had a great time in art school getting my BFA. worked with and learned from great people, learned tons, and met my wife through some fellow students. Even got scholorships and grants to cover 90% of the cost.

a degree can help getting a job, but not garantee it, depends on the job.

Yes it would help and so would a portfolio and talent. I mean prove your self and you will get far but don't think that just becuase you have a BSC or HND or whatever in front of your name will get you anywhere - its YOU
