Bought both of Colin Moock's O'Reilly AS books a few months ago and have worked my way through some of the chapters.
Do you think it would be better for me to get his latest update...
http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/0…...or try some of the training CDs from Lynda and VTC...

Aye but naw but aye!
AS 2.0 it is fur me!So clone, you recommend both? You used Lynda or VTC training CDs before? If so which is better (besides Lynda being $5 cheaper per month)?
Anyone else used them and are they worth the money?

O'Reilly is more than enough.
for the rest use google.
AS2.0 makes web development incredibly faster, more reliable, more logic. no turning back.

when you say you bought both of moocks books a few months ago, do you mean as the definitive guide and as for flash mx the definitive guide...
if so... dont bother reading the first one (as the definitve guide), its geared for flash 5, and the one for mx covers everything plus more that it contains...
finish up mx actionscript by him, and when you understand it (have a good genereal understanding of each chapter, reread if you need to, its worth it) go on to essential as2...
you work through both those books and retain it, and you will be very happy with what you can do...
cheers.

Ah, sorry. I bought Colin Moock's Actionscript Definitive Guide and Joey Lott's Actionscript Cookbook. I've worked my way through quite a fair bit of the Definitive Guide, cross-referencing with the Cookbook when things got a bit hairy.
Is it still relevant for me to carry on with the AS 1.0 training or should I skip straight onto AS 2.0?
I just thought the CD based training might be a bit more practical and that working with both might help.

"in my opinion", i would complete as for flash mx, the first 400 pages or so, until the language reference starts (i skim it) and then go on to as2...
the last few chapters in as for mx deal with sub classes, components, etc that i think will be beneficial to have heard of/know about before diving into as2...
cheers

OK thanks. Looks like it's "sod the CDs, stick with Moock".
To be honest it was the whole OOP class/prototype thing that was getting a bit scary for me last time. Maybe I should give it another go.

yeah, that chapter steps it up a bit in stretching your thoughts... go through it a few times, i did... also, helped me a lot to write down what i was reading (type down, i mean, i the as editor)...
