"We will build a statue for Bush," said Ali Fadel, the former provincial council chairman. "He is the symbol of freedom."
whether or not he really thinks that, that would simply be asking for trouble.

from 40 years ago:
U.S. Encouraged by Vietnam Vote : Officials Cite 83% Turnout Despite Vietcong Terror
by Peter Grose, Special to the New York Times (9/4/1967: p. 2)
WASHINGTON, Sept. 3-- United States officials were surprised and heartened today at the size of turnout in South Vietnam's presidential election despite a Vietcong terrorist campaign to disrupt the voting.
According to reports from Saigon, 83 per cent of the 5.85 million registered voters cast their ballots yesterday. Many of them risked reprisals threatened by the Vietcong.
The size of the popular vote and the inability of the Vietcong to destroy the election machinery were the two salient facts in a preliminary assessment of the nation election based on the incomplete returns reaching here.

8 million Iraqis voted...
and this bothers and frustrates mrdobolina, janne, skt and dr_strangedub.
They wish more violence erupted to show US failure.
They hate to see it be successful because that would mean they have to admit the Bush administration was right.

wow pocho...
... finally - some solid historical evidence in writing.... that post is something one can learn from.
Where'd you find that?
Let's hope that the same thing doesn't happen again (holds breath).

it's a fucking complete failure you dimwitted jackass

Sorry liquid but that really is all I have to say to you lot. I could try and come up with an educated and considered respose but I see very little point.
Anyone that thinks America is out to help anyone but itself and "spread freedom" is obviously a little missguided.
So we had 8 Million Iraqis vote. What did they vote for?
How much power will this Iraqi "government" have?
Tell me liquid, how much power will the Americans let them, have?

the gloating from the right side is rather disgusting.
- johndiggity0
vietnam is a different than iraq. the insurgents that bombed polling centers aren't being supported by communist china, or any other country for that matter.
and these are the type of people who did not want the elections to proceed. http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/ne…
pretty fucking low, no matter your cause.
- Plusone0
the negativity and denial from the left side is rather old.
- robotron3k0
here! here! mrdoblina, well said.

no, what's different is that we are the only ones responsible for the attacks themselves...we are eating ourselves....
- johndiggity0
what's this "we" shit? you are a card carrying communist.

...................................
No, you arrogant flag waving hicks bother me.
Because they voted, bush was right? How in the fuck did you manage to work that one out?
You lot have cheapened the word freedom beyond recognition.
- Plusone0
"no, what's different is that we are the only ones responsible for the attacks themselves...we are eating ourselves...."
That's like saying the tsunami victims have only themselves to blame for not having a warning system in place.
wake up from your brainwashing session. The same media that told you Iraq was a mess and we need to postpone the lections were wrong.
The same media that told you Kerry would win was wrong.
Maybe it's time you all start looking at your resources as part of your problem. You seem to enjoy being in the dark and misinformed.
- janne0
"and this bothers and frustrates mrdobolina, janne, skt and dr_strangedub"
Plusone, you may have missed my last post. I have never felt remotely frustrated about the idea of people voting. On the contrary. Why would you assume that?
- robotron3k0
http://www.dahrjamailiraq.com/ha…
only 8 million voted out of 27 million, so 19 million haven't voted yet... a true democratic success(?)

no cards necessary, this shit is universal....
