Hello. Just finished a website for my flatmate. It is pretty simple, without doesn't have any special moving flashy bits.
Any opinions?

Nice I like. But how about if the images on the portfolio were the same size?
- janne0
great illies!
- filt0
i actually like the different sized thumbnails. overall nice, simple layout.
on page 2 of the portfolio, having the link to page 1 to the right of the link to page 3 seems a bit odd.
might consider adding some information along with the images if theres anythin notable: title, client...

Nice simple clean site.
Might be nice though to add some sort of mouse over for the portfolio items. Just to give an indication that there is something there when you click on them.

like it. very nice illies, indeed! the only thing that distracts me too is the size of the thumbs - they somehow take a bit of the focus off of the illies..

tomkat, I agree. It would be better to have them in uniform shape and alignment to better direct the eye, instead of confusing it and detracting away from those beautiful illustrations. Nice choise of typeface btw.

i have a mouseOver

Yep i am not sure about the link being on the right, have been staring at it so long it's difficult to judge what looks right!
As to the info, yup i like that idea however, tim's only just starting out, so all the work is self promotional. I thought instead of keep repeating that to leave it empty until he has clients.
anyone else?

nice and simple, I like it, good work too. I wouldn't change the thumbnails size, I quite like the way there all different...

Cheers save. Tim really likes asymmetry
thanks for taking the time to have a look guys, much appreciated

yeah im late lookin.
ok, room to expand it with your set-up. but with only 5 images in a gallery, 13 images total you only need one nav page presently. to flit from gallery to gallery just takes up veiwers time. its not as if each gallery has a genre.
you need to make gallery = gallery 1, as you have 2 and 3 imo.
and i dont get the link at teh bottom "big happen", natham...what is this?
nice illy's btw...well worth a web site

i like the photo of the street sign.
but in the folio i found it a bit annoying clicking on the slithers of work, just because its they dont represent the link to the full image very well.
it was a bit like randomly clicking and seeing what pops up

ps: i really like your illustrations on your site

I like the simple organization of the site & I definitely like the work. My only gripe is the paragraph he typed about himself - he may want to try to sound a little more professional.

Agree with Brooke an the para.
A few more points. on the thumbs nav. If you have them at different lengths on the horz why not different on the vert as well, i.e different sized thumbs that make up one whole rectangle perhaps.
Also, why is the text an image and not html text?
One more small thing for asthetics. I would sift your "portfolio" & "detail nav to the left a bit so the horizontal bar between lines up with the rest of your page divide.
Nice illus BTW :)

really nice illustration work. would say you should definately change the arrows on page two...it's confusing.
really simple, straight-forward, and clean. the work is highlighted and i think that is the most important thing. nice job.

first of all some very nice work in there, i like your style. my comments towards the site can be viewed in this infographic, basically it shows a visual diagram of why i am a fan of navigation menus on the right side of the screen (all depending if you use your right hand for the mouse, but most users do) anyway, if the menu is on the left side, it creates a tipping point to where the user is crossing their field of vision, vs. navigating with mouse on screen:

Hello again, sorry been away from the computer for a while. Thanks for the input, is definately helpful.
Toulouz- Ideally i would prefer one gallery, but i was trying to create something without massive amounts of scrolling. And i couldn't work out how to fit 13 thumbnails (tim wanted abstract thumbnails) on without them becoming very thin lines.
Big happen is the name i design (or try to) under, am trying to keep mybrokenshoe as pure illustration. So that link is instead of typeing "designed by" trying to be sort of more subtle.
Dancer and Brooke - tim re-wrote the words, he laughed and agreed whole heartedly about the unproffesionalness. I have replace the image with text - my bad. Also changed to the backwards arrow on porfolio page 2.
Magic patch - Amazing i have never thought of it like that, i always thought of websites kinda like books reading left to right (i trained as an illustrator not a designer.) Am going to leave it be on this site but will look into changing it in the future.
Thanks again for the advice and sorry about the length of this post. Tim would also like to say thanks to everyone for the postive feedback on his images.
