i think if you are smart about it, you can actually succeed in design business where you are financial rewarded. of course, that's a very small portion of designers.
i don't know, i like design. may not like the work i do, but design is where my heart is at.
Maury Ballstein: What do we do when we fall off the horse?
Derek Zoolander: ... fall off the horse...
Maury Ballstein: ... we... get back on the horse!
Derek Zoolander: Sorry, Maury. I'm not a gymnast.

haha they had some design initiative here recently calling for "clear briefs", i dunno whether it got enforced
if you're bored in your area why don't you work out which aspects you do enjoy and see if you can get more work that concentrates on the bits you like? designers have so many different skills.

sometimes i just wish i was independantly wealthy and i could quit design.
- Nairn0
But if you were independently wealthy would't you spend all day amusing yopurself creatively anyway?
And no, I'm not talking masturbation and Japanese bondage. You don't need to be wealthy to enjoy those - I know!

design is for the birds. i'm so sick of it.

you should be doing what you love for a living, regardless of how much of a living you can make of it.
this is true success, and the benefits will come in time.

Design can get really frustrating.. drawing, painting and illustrating keeps me sane.
Sometimes I gotta break away from the computers... they are so limiting.

Enter response:
i think thats what it is , you need to design, paint, whatever for yourself to maintain sanity. just doing it as your job doesnt cut it, job is a job is a job. . . you think designers will get workers comp? carpotunnel is creeping around the corner.

Well from my experience doing web design, the creative part is only 10%. The rest is build work, meetings, making it work, programming, and redoing all the work you have just completed, due to bad management and communication.
And not getting paid over time.
Anyway.

I think if you want to make good money in a creative field you have to start embracing analytical deconstruction, and theory and that. It's not good enough at senior level to not have an answer to why you did something; you need to have reasons for designing like you do.

there's already way too many english teachers in Japan
- SteveJobs0
consider your creative freedom - does it need to be liberated? perhaps a preemptive strike on your tenure might actually be a pc move.
- tkmeister0
try being a english prostitute/man-whore in japan.

"there's already way too many english teachers in Japan"
Aren't most of them Americans?
I'd like to teach British English.
