Kosher is a set of laws, Kosher Laws dealing with ceremonial cleanliness and purity as pertains to food, which ultimately trickles down to every day cleanliness and purity as concerns foods.

It's where they slit an animals throat until it bleeds to death, so the meat can be 'pure'.
nice.

quite like halal, just don't say that to a kosher butcher (or a halal butcher)

Mmmm. Meat.
- vespa0
yea kuz one of my mates said when her parents first arrived in the uk they could only eat kosher meat because there was no halal in the uk.
i found out recently that a kosher diet doesnt permit shellfish! aaargh! the rest i could sort of understand but no PRAWNS?! can you get halal prawns?
- Kuz0
there's a debate a ranging amongst the muslim circles for that one.
Ya sea vesp, the muslim dietary laws are based on the Jewish ones, and officially shell fish are forbidden. But like Mussa's love their prawns, and when the Ay-rabs traders went aroond spreading the word, they converted many like coastal regions (Gujarat, Bengalis, Indonesia, Malaysia etc.) who were all down with the shell fish. So they came up with some loop-hole, cause prawns be so tasty, where by they ain't technically shell-fish on account o' they have an exo-skeletan, and that what the Jew's actualyl meant (but don't realise) that the real shell fish like Muscles and Oysters are fobidden. Therefore Prawns are cool... only don't eat too many cause they're not that sure about that one, and try and avoid on holy days just in case ;)

The same rules apply for some christian sects too.....
I once went out with a girl whose ma was seventh day adventist or summit... she told me about it....
No shark either cos it's no got scales.
- vespa0
no gummy shark! wheeeeere's it aww gonnae end fer gawds sake? (sorry fer the blasphemy)
- MX_OnD0
Nae venison either if ah remeber richt....
- paraselene0
it ain't just a question of the exo-skeleton, either. calamari is not kosher because it is technically a shellfish without a shell. mx_ond is right about the sharks, too.
i have the great good fortune to be a cajun sephardic jew. this means that ye olde crawdad is much more important than some age old dietary prohibitions that were actually more to do with common sense in the era b.r. (before refrigeration) than with purity or godliness.
- paraselene0
venison has a cloven hoof.
that's two for the goy in the kilt!
ah congratchalate ya fer beein' sooch a cosmopoliten wee hoor!
- MX_OnD0
jist cos ah spick like a fermer disnae me ah'm ignurant, ken?
- paraselene0
of course not!
what i meant is that most goyim don't know the first thing about it. heck, lots of jews don't get half of it, either.
it's cool that you know your shit is all i'm sayin'.
how was burn's day?
- tGP0
7th day adventist is not Christian, it is recognized as a non-Christian cult...
it was formed in the mid 1800's by a guy named William Miller, who predicted Jesus was going to return on October 22, 1844, after he didn't, many/most of his group desbanded... he then conveniently "had another vision" in which he learned that Jesus actually was just going to go to another "place" in heaven, not come back to earth...
