what about that other founder of microsoft, Paul Allen? has he donated anything?
- mg330
Nice that he is spending his money on such a worthy cause. He's got enough to colonize the moon...glad he's doing something better instead!

i view this as being relative - bill gates giving away 750,000 is like me giving $5, is it not?
If i had $1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,0... dollars i would give 750,000 much more easily....
just a thought.

i did a little research - mr gates is worth 30,000,000,000 and he gave away 750,000,000
that's like if you got a brand new $30,000 car and then spent $750 for a stereo system or something like that.
not impressed. :)

750 million is a huge chunk no matter what you have. He's spending more than twice what the US spent on the tsunami.
Thumbs up!

Good work Billy :-)
Still doesn't make up for a shitty operating system though :-/

I already respected him.

j_red, wtf is your problem? $750 mln is a fucking lot of money, why does it have to be compared to what he's worth? that's so pathetic. better nothing than something dude.
- iDp0
where is Jobs spending his cash?
- ********0
hey, i'm not mad at the $750mil, obviously that's a ton, i don't mean to sound like a jerk,
i'm just saying that's a drop out of his bucket, who in the world WOULDN'T give that in his situation?
if you still think i'm a jerk i'm sorry, i just think the old man down the street who went without heat for a week and donated half of his social security check to the tsunami effort if much more noble and exemplifies sacrifice and good will toward humankind :)
- ********0
haha j_red old man doesn't exist! it's an urban myth! you've been JazX'd!
- ********0
haha Kuz, :) you're right that was an example
- ********0
unfortunantly j_red the guy without heat donating 3,000.00 isn't going to have much effect on anything. Sure it is very noble, and every bit counts, but Billy did do a great thing by stepping up and helping jump start the effort for relief. It doesn't need to "break" you to make a donation. I donated 250.00 - that's all I had at the time, not all I am worth.
- ********0
yes j_red but a ridiculous example!
you expect Bill Gates to give up his entire fortune and then sleep in the rough for the nigh? then you'd be happy?? then THEN you'd think it'd be a worthy gesture??
- rabattski0
it's just that i get upset by such ignorant statements j_red, seriously, i've read it so many times that someone criticizes a donation based on the fact that it's not fitting to the income or wealth of that person. why does it have to be that way? why does it have to be compared to the income? isn't giving money just a reason good enough? give me one good reason why it's not? $750 mln is a lot of money, more than any country in itself would spend and this is a donation from just 1 guy! besides, the gates have been invovled in this for a much longer time, have donated a lot in the past, they always have been involved. so this is not just a one time thing for publishing values.
anyways, have you donated half of your paycheck to any charity lately?
- AMFA0
j_red:
how much have you donated?and when you talk about what he's worth, youre talking about financial worth (comany, house, etc) that he can just pull out of the bank.
it aint like he got 30bil sitting in a bank or as some liquid asset.
750 is a a lot out what he can acutally give...
just thought id say something. give a guy a hard time for that much money? shit....
- ********0
again, not to sound like a jerk, puter - let me clarify: mr gates gave a LOT of money. Now, to my point:
puter, you only donated $250, that's not going to do as much as mr gates' donation, but it was undoubtedly a larger percentage of your total worth that you gave, and in that respect is more impressive.
man, i must be way off-base here.
- ********0
j_red you are so talking out of your ass.
I'd quit now before you seem more foolish :)
- -leah-0
now maybe he can donate some money for vacinnating peoples computers from virus's?
- ********0
There is nothing more impressive about it. I gave to help, so did he. He gave more money than America did as a country, and than the Brits... now that is impressive any way you slice it.
