Darnit, I need my Shuffle and Mini NOW!
Anybody else pre-ordered these babies? When are yours expected?
- zaven0
why did you oredered a mini? i thought you have a powerbook...
- jox0
Yeah I do, the Mini's just gonna serve as music / movie server.
- rabattski0
and a shuffle? sorry dude, but that is really a waste of money.
- jox0
How is that a waste of money?
- rabattski0
that's that usb stick right? if so, it's a waste of money because for way less money you have way better usb sticks with display and also with flash memory you can upgrade to 2Gb etc.
- jox0
– I don't need more memory
– I don't *want* a display
– I don't want "that other product" that doesn't sync well.
– Nothing can compete in terms of size. And what product has a display with 2 gigs of memory for way less money?
- rabattski0
oh so you have no problem with playing about 1000 songs without having a display? so what was that song again? i think it was track #5678 or was it track #12? :)
you know it's all a matter of taste etc. but i think that that shuffle thing is really digging into the ipod hype without being something really good / without adding something extra. it's just an usb stick without a display. there are so many brands the same size and smaller (you really think the shuffle is the smallest?) and also above that so much cheaper. then again, those are not apple and those are not an ipod lookalike.
and then i'm like sorry but i'm never ever gonna waste cash on that because it's white and looks like an ipod but it by far isn't an ipod. the controls look like they rotate but they're not.
the ones i'm talking about are the ones where you can slide in those same memory cards you have for digital cameras. and you can go as far as 2Gb. just check your local electronic stores etc. i'm getting junk in the mail with adverts for those and they're getting cheaper and cheaper.

I can only imagine the craze when Linus Thorvalds releases a mp3 player.

The Shuffle holds 120 songs (the one I had in mind), I think it would be fairly easy to keep track of your favorites.
Sorry, I'm not buying that 2GB with display for cheaper when you cant provide a link. But for 80 euros I think I am willing to take the "risk" of not being satisfied. I have spent more money on temporary tattoos this year than than.
The reason I wanted this in the first place is so that I can carry it with me when I'm skiing. A standard-sized iPod or [insert any of the other look-alikes here] would be too big to carry in your pocket all day without being disturbed by its size.
I am certainly no Apple fanatic, but please do provide a link to something thats cheaper, prettier and with similar size / weight and I'd be happy to consider one. You may also want to have in mind that it should look fairly nice too and that a self-respecting designer would carry it with him or her without getting beaten up by one of his own.. [which, basically rules out anything signed Creative and/or JoS]
I'm all ears.

If the gadget is tiny and can only hold a tiny, one-line display, then what's the difference between finding your song by sight or by ear?
Unless you have a big display, like on hard-drive players and can view lists, I don't see the big deal with putting tiny displays on tiny mp3 players.
Also, PC Mag reviewed the iPod shuffle and said it had better sound quality than the regular iPods!

"I have spent more money on temporary tattoos this year than than."
hahaha...

It's 120 songs, I grew up using a casstte walkman back in the day when you NEVER had a screen to tell you crap, even with my ipod- which is in a case- on my belt loop- I rarely refer to a "screen" when I am walking-
The shuffle is priced like any other USB stick except-- it plays music and holds files
- it syncs with itunes automatically
- it has a longer battery life then othersYou can get one of these (any many junk like it)

- which cost more
or a shuffle with sync
- rabattski0
hey jox do what you think is best. that's all. imo that shuffle is too expensive for what it does. and that's just an opinion like everyone has. anyways, i'm not gonna scan folders or spend time on looking for links from local electronic stores so i can "proof" to you that there are cheapass mp3 players / usb sticks outthere because i don't care if need to prove it. it's all your business you know. i just wanted to let you know that there are alternatives which imo are a better deal.
- rabattski0
wow. there are some hardcore pro apple users here. yeah yeah, there's nothing better than apple. it's the finest shit known to mankind out there.
anyways puter, so you think that that display on an ipod is also unnecessary?
- jox0
I believe you rabbatski, I just couldn't find anything and I thought you had something particular in mind.
- rabattski0
nope. nothing in particular. all that i know regarding this is solely based on advertising / folders i get in the mail plus most of my friends here have various mp3 players / sticks.

I am not saying the display on the ipod ins't needed- I am saying on the shuffle it is not.
It would be too small to read- if I am jogging, biking, or whatever- even walking- since I loaded the songs in the damn thing- I dont need a 1 inch by 1 inch desplay to tell me what it is- if you listen to the radio- it's the same deal
it is not a diehard Apple thing
but this is the last product you can say Apple is ripping people off withIts cheap- it syncs- it sounds good
- rabattski0
i dunno. i still think it's way too expensive and just playing into the ipod hype. all imho.
and as far as i know you can sync all usb media. no matter which brand.
- maw0
Dunno if I'm the "hardcore pro apple" person or not, but I was just pointing out that the iPod shuffle is a reasonable option when looking for a small, USB/mp3 player.
I didn't mean it to sound like I was saying it's THE BEST. Don't want to start up that "Apple/elitist shit" again.
- rabattski0
i think the philips magnesium key 512Mb mp3 usb stick / player, same options, no display, also doesn't need batteries does 40 euros these days if you shop around.
