thats it... couldnt boot with the older OS9 version CD I had, so had to install Classic on another disk, so that could launch the Classic environment and allow the OS9 installer to run, allowing me to install OS9 on the HD to use Classic.... right?

You can get into problems with the different versions of CD... I once had to install OS9 on an external disk on another computer, and then start the Powerbook from the external in OS 9, and then install on the Powerbook HD when its already booted in 9....or something weird like that.. all I remember is there is a way...
- Gorbie0
i did that. it's still not letting me boot from it.
here's why btw...
classic blows, and in my speculation, can corrupt a perfectly good system. OS9 is buggy too - so i want OSX & OS9 on different partitions. This used to be easy... i wasn't aware that newer machines wouldn't boot from 9.
thanks for the help, though. i have to do some research.

what are you runnin on classic thats makin it so buggy bro?
- puter0
If you have OS 9 drivers installed when OS X was installed- even if you removed OS 9 the OS still thinks its there...
The best way to have OS 9 on a OS X machine is to have a dedicate partition set up for it ahead of time.
When you are booting, you can then hold down the option key and choose your OS.

that is wacky...
i can't imagine that's the way they do it at apple.
but thanks for he tip. it makes sense. just seems a bit much.
- Gorbie0
that's what i have puter. i'll try the option key now.
Self... I'm really paranoid about running 9 & 10 side by side. i never use 9 - but i have a couple jobs where i have to use Quark 4 and i don't want that stuff in the way of my regular system. so, starting from scratch... i figured i'd separate the two - as this used to be not only possible, but easy.
- Gorbie0
i swear... i used to go out. have fun. drink. dance. smoke. wtf.
- bSelf0
i guess i need to change my name to self...
do you have quark 6?
- Gorbie0
right on... be your self.
i'm doing some contract work for a magazine that's stuck in the dark ages.
- bSelf0
fuck it.. nevermind my question
g'luck i guess..
check you late
- Gorbie0
thanks for trying. i don't do anything the easy way.
or the right way, i guess.
- bSelf0
bloddy hell.
the reason i asked is cause you can do your designs in q6.
do a collect for output and save down to q5. open q5 and save down to q4/its such a pain in the ass for those old schooler clients.
but q6 will collect the fonts.
if you need q5 let me know
and dont EVER call me self again!
this acct will distruct like an inspector gadget missoin letter..
*back to seff

dows that work? it crossed my mind when i asked the question a while ago. i just figured it would prolly fuck something up.
hmm..... that's really the only reason i'm doing this whole os9 crap.

Prob. the guys at Apple have a secret special way of getting 9 on a non-9 bootable machine.
What if you install 9 on another machine (if you have access to another machine) or an external HD, and just burn to CD or copy the Sys.Folder.
I've been able to get copied System Folders to work for me. Used to be a good way to backup before I had an external HD.

"gfySelf"

- - -yeah it works. i do it with a lot of the low rent printers.
so do you have q4 q5 & q6?
- Gorbie0
i got 6 for sure.
i haven't dug up 4 since i got in the bidniss
- BonSeff0
ok, but do you have quark5? because q6 only saves to 5 and you need 5 to save to 4.
quark is a lovely company
- Donvitoviti0
why in the world would you want to use OS 9'
because of quark?????
POS quark???Start doing you stuff in indesign
- Gorbie0
i was just buying time while i looked........ no. i don't have 5.
i did.
this is such a bitch. my shit was set up perfect... then the HD died. would've cost almost $400 to fix if i didn't have the applecare
